TnT Show 06-05-2001

Tuesday 6-5-01

Todd and Tyler started off this morning’s show by reading some hate e-mail they received overnight. It was from yet another pissed off Husker fan who is upset at their opinions on the Huskers making it to this year’s College World Series. The e-mail also had a reference or two that Todd and Tyler didn’t agree with that weren’t directly Husker related. The letter seemed to give the impression that if you aren’t born and raised in Omaha, then any opinion you may have is less important than someone who was born here. It also said that the hospitality Omaha has extended to TnT has run it’s course.

As the show progressed, Todd and Tyler spent a great deal of time discussing the whole you’ve got to be born here to matter mentality. They talked about the various places they lived and how they have never come across the same sort of snobbish attitude that they see here. They also got feedback from listeners as to whether or not any of them perceived the show to have run it’s course, the idea based on the hospitality withdrawal from the angry e-mailer. None of their listeners felt that the show had outstayed it’s welcome, though.

TnT spent a little time very early in the show talking about an article written in a radio trade publication. The article referred to regular callers of talk radio shows as “scum” and went on to elaborate exactly why the author thought so. Many of the points in the article made TnT laugh as the reflected on their own regular callers. It was at that point that Todd and Tyler decided they would try to do a First Time Caller Tuesday edition of the TnT show. They opened up the phone lines to anyone who had never called the show before and they received quite a response.

Many of the first time callers checked in just to tell TnT how much they enjoyed their show. Those calls fit in pretty well with the hateful subject matter brought about by the first e-mail of the day, the Husker CWS letter. The first time callers discussed a variety of issues relating to that main topic of the day and they also talked about being “born and raised” in Nebraska.

Todd and Tyler had a conversation with one of the Husker baseball players, Brandon Eymann. His father, Kirk, has been calling the show for a while now talking about the baseball team and this morning, TnT put both of them on the air together. They talked with Brandon about what it was like getting to the CWS and also asked about the team’s overall excitement about their accomplishment. They also talked a bit about the limited number of tickets (6) each team member gets for family and friends. It was at that point that Brandon’s father made sure everyone listening knew all 6 tickets were accounted for; he’s obviously been getting calls from long lost brothers begging for one of the few seats. TnT ended the call by wishing Brandon well even though they won’t be cheering for a Husker victory.

Towards the end of the show, TnT talked about an article in Glamour magazine that listed the legal age of consent in each state. They went through several of the states that CWS are from and talked about some of the logistics of where one could have sex with what aged girl and where one couldn’t. The standard age seemed to be 16-years-old in most states but there were a few that were 17 and 18. One of the youngest legal ages of consent was, surprisingly, Hawaii. TnT thought for sure that one of the southern states would top that but according to their information, Hawaii did have the lowest age. They may bring the topic up again tomorrow as it came up pretty late in today’s show.

Dr. Ed is scheduled to join Todd and Tyler tomorrow morning so make sure you’ve got your medically related questions ready for him. Tune in from 5:30 to 10 am for another show and then check back here in the afternoon for another update. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
