TnT Show 08-13-2001

Monday 8-13-01

Todd and Tyler began this morning’s show with a little reaction from some things that took place last week. TnT got a little news coverage for their Malcolm X clean-up project on Friday. They were pleased that their show was mentioned but disappointed to hear that the television station’s web site used the term, “local radio station” instead of giving credit where credit was due. They, once again, thanked all the volunteers who showed up to help. Also relating to last week, the guys read an e-mail forwarded to them by their in-studio guest that discussed Tom Osborne. The e-mail seemed to mirror TnT’s opinion on the Huskers and the guys took the opportunity to, once again, point out the silly hysteria centering around Husker football.

Brian came in and did the news this morning, which included a story about a guy who wants to cut his feet off with a guillotine and broadcast the event over the Internet on Halloween. The guy, a paraplegic, plans to do this in order to raise money ($20 a pop for the viewing) to buy himself some prosthetic legs because his insurance company won’t cover it. TnT spent a great deal of time discussing this idiot’s plans and took some calls from listeners as well. One woman, also a paraplegic, said the guy would probably still feel the pain of cutting off his feet even though he may not have movement in the lower half of his body. For further information, feel free to visit this guy’s web site at http://www.cutoffmyfeet.com/” target=blank>www.cutoffmyfeet.com.

The big discussion of the morning was a news story about the shooting at a soccer game in Council Bluffs yesterday. From all the information TnT were able to get, a fight broke out at the soccer match between some people of Mexican decent and people of El Salvadorian decent after a ref kicked someone out of the game. The fight lasted for about 15 minutes before police arrived. At one point during the brawl, someone handed a man a pistol. He shot the pistol into the air in order to break up the fight and at that point, the officers shot him. According to witnesses, the man was not told to “Freeze” or to drop his gun.

TnT spent a great deal of time discussing all sides of the situation. They took calls from backers of the police and from others who thought the police acted inappropriately. They discussed how people can sometimes blindly back the police in every circumstance and they also covered many aspects of the race-relations vs. the police issue. They seemed to understand everyone’s points of view and spent time discussing every angle of the situation throughout much of today’s show. All in all, without further details, TnT weren’t sure on where to stand. I’m sure this won’t be the last we hear about this case and TnT will surely discuss any further details as they become available.

Larry the Cable Guy phoned in this morning with several commentaries up his sleeve. He let TnT decide which they would like to hear. Of the choices, TnT were most interested in finding out Larry’s take on Rosie being on anti-depressants. Larry will check in again as the week progresses so stay tuned to TnT for more.

Even though I’m an avid listener of Todd and Tyler, there are still times on the show when I hear something that cause me to take a mental break for a second and say, “Did I just hear what I thought I heard?” This morning, my Dale-like head-to-the-wall-wobbling-my-brain moment happened sort of out of the blue. I’ve been trying to recall exactly how it came up but for the life of me, I can’t remember. Basically, at one point in the show Tyler gave someone who had come up in discussion a fake last name. The last name was one that was pulled off in studio by their comedian buddy Red Peters. Red, unlike Tyler, has the uncanny ability to say this particular made-up last name in a rather smooth, radio friendly way. Tyler, unfortunately yet incredibly comically, screwed it up in a big way when he tried to say “Titf*ckedafatchick”. Basically, he said the phony last name a bit too slow, which, in essence, made it sound as though he dropped an on-air F-Bomb. It was very funny and everyone seemed to get a good laugh. What made the whole thing even funnier was that Tyler had missed bleeping out an earlier F-Bomb made by a caller about an hour before. You’ve got to listen every day, all day folks. Otherwise you miss gems like this that will probably not get replayed without a strategically placed “beep”.

When Attaboy Travis came in to do the sports, he and TnT spent some time talking about a list of the top sports-related towns in the US. Omaha was ranked above 100, while Lincoln was in the 50s. The gang discussed why the two cities placed where they were and how it seemed that major college towns with decent programs seemed to get a higher nods than even some of the larger cities with more sports.

Towards the end of the show, TnT somehow got into a discussion about urinating in public. I truly can’t remember exactly how the subject came up but it did make for some interesting calls. To begin with, the guys discussed with Donnie the legality behind peeing in public. Donnie seemed to think that there was no law against it, while Tyler explained that he was nearly arrested for indecent exposure while peeing outside many years ago. Many listeners phoned in with public urination stories to share. Some of them also talked about the legal issues. It was concluded that, while a State may have no law against it, most cities have an anti-squirting-outside ordinance in place and that’s where public pissers tend to get in trouble.

Well, that’s the Monday update. Tune in tomorrow from 5:30 to 10am for another show and then check back here in the afternoon for the update. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
