TnT Show 09-06-2001

Thursday 9-6-01

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning discussing a variety of things. They had received some e-mails from listeners informing them of a Brent Musberger article touting Lincoln as the best place to watch a college football game. TnT disagreed with that claim and spent some time talking about various other college towns that had great football fan traditions. Also early in the show, TnT talked about how Dave Rimington is going to get a street at 24th and L street named after him. They also covered the Ann Hasche interview last night and spent a bit of time talking about how completely psycho that chick is. TnT also pondered the effects of smoking pot laced with embalming fluid.

Todd brought in the sound track from the new movie “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” which included a song about getting high. Some of the local kiddy radio stations in town are playing the catchy new tune but are “quacking out” all of the “high” words in order to not corrupt the feeble minds of the youth of Omaha. TnT played the song un-edited and it was indeed quite funny, in part because the song was so incredibly about Todd that the coincidence was mind-blowing. The guys changed the lyrics around a bit to make the song even more about Todd and they even had a bit of help from some listeners who phoned in awesome, hilarious lyrical suggestions filled with obscure and humorous show references. The guys talked to one of the Fish Heads and from the sounds of it, they may be covering the “Todd’s High” song soon. Stay tuned.

The guys spent some more time this morning discussing the upcoming Husker Vs. Notre Dame football game. They wondered if there were any Husker fans who had attended football games that didn’t involve the Big Red. They took some calls from listeners, Husker fans and not, and talked about the games those callers had seen. They also went a bit further in depth about some of the better football stadiums and traditions elsewhere in the country.

Jeff Roach from the Gem Group, a marketing firm who handles the Sears sports trophies, came in studio this morning and brought the college football trophy with him. The guys spent a bit of time talking with Jeff about how he got the job, which intails him traveling around the country to the best college match-up of each week. They also talked about some of the places he’s been, his favorite team and stadiums as well as other appearances he’ll be making with the trophy while he’s in Nebraska. It sounded like Jeff has the ultimate football fan’s dream job. Jeff hung out with TnT throughout the show and seemed to have a good time, even though TnT continuously asked him how many chicks he’s banged by using the trophy as a lure. It was very funny stuff. Hopefully someone will e-mail me a photo of TnT with the trophy so I can get it up on the web site for you all to enjoy.

TnT spoke with Joe Garner this morning about his new book, “Echoes of Notre Dame Football : Great and Memorable Moments of the Fighting Irish”. You may remember TnT speaking to him about a few of his other coffee table/CD books titled “And the Fans Roared” and “We Interrupt This Broadcast”. Anyway, TnT talked with Mr. Garner about his new book that details some of the greatest moments in Notre Dame football history. They played several of the clips throughout the show, mostly to taunt Dodge County Duke and other Husker fans, which was pretty amusing because it caused Duke to melt down a time or two when he phoned the show. The guys also went into some detail about the college and touched on the truthfulness of the movie, “Rudy”. Joe had many other stories to share about the publication of the book and the famous people who were a part of it. You can find this book, along with Joe’s others by visiting your favorite on-line book selling web site.

Jimmy Brogan from the Funny Bone came in this morning and hung out with TnT for a bit. He attended Notre Dame for a while so he joined in on the guy’s conversation about the coffee table book. Jimmy also wrote for the “Tonight Show” for 9 years and has worked closely with Jay Leno for quite some time. He talked about his experience as a comic and what it was like to write for Leno.

Towards the end of the show, TnT phoned Norfolk to find out some information on the birth home of Johnny Carson for Jimmy, as he wanted to visit the location and get a few pictures. The information operator they contacted was clueless so they phoned the Norfolk newspaper. The first person they reached at the newspaper wasn’t the most pleasant man and hung up on TnT when they mentioned that they were on the air. That pissed TnT off so they called back. When the receptionist picked up the phone, Todd asked her to connect them to anyone in the building who wasn’t an asshole. Everyone had a good laugh at that before the guys were finally able to get the exact location they were looking for out of the receptionist.

Well, that’s the update for today. Tomorrow Jimmy Brogan and Pat Hazel from the Funny Bone will be joining the guys and Donnie said he is working on getting the QB from Notre Dame to phone the show. Tune in from 5:30am to 10am for another show and then check back here in the afternoon for the update. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
