TnT Show 09-12-2001

Wednesday 9-12-01

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning with some reaction to the events that took place in Boston, Washington DC and New York City. The guys feel the same way we all do about the terrible occurrences on the east coast yesterday. In order to break from the information overload provided by all of the talking heads in Washington and all over the television and radio yesterday, Todd and Tyler decided to let their show this morning be a “regular guy day”. They basically opened up the phone lines for their listeners to check in with their thoughts and questions, at the same time screening out any hearsay, rumors or unreliable and unconfirmed details of the tragedy.

Many of the callers this morning offered up their ideas on how to deal with the terrorists responsible for the attack. On a humorous note, a drunk/stoned guy phoned TnT very early and suggested that, “..we get Uncle Ted involved”, meaning Ted Nugent. TnT laughed at the thought of Nugent bow hunting Bin Laden in the desert. There also seemed to be a lot of calls this morning from people expressing their ideas about our country as a whole. Many were proud that we have come together and dropped all of the BS bi-partisan crap in Washington. Others discussed the importance of flags and urged everyone to put up their stripes. To a certain extent, those callers brought out a sense of national pride that this country has seemed to lack in recent years.

Journal Broadcast Group set up another area to take medical and financial donations right outside their building, as they did yesterday. Throughout the show, TnT checked in with a variety of the Z-92 staff members who were accepting donations. By the end of the show at 10:30am, TnT mentioned that between the two locations yesterday and this morning they had raised about $60,000 in cash contributions, not including the medical and relief supplies.

Dr. Ed came in studio this morning and hung out with TnT for a bit. Normally Dr. Ed would answer medical questions from the audience but this morning had an unusual tone to it, as I’m sure you can imagine. The guys spent most of Dr. Ed’s visit discussing the terrorist attacks yesterday, taking calls from listeners and asking Dr. Ed about the various emergency medical treatments the people involved in yesterday’s attacks that are ongoing in NYC and DC today. Dr. Ed may come back in next Wednesday when things are a bit more settled down so stay tuned.

Travis came in to do sports but for the most part, he detailed cancellations of various events around the country. Brian’s entertainment newscast was very similar, as he listed cancelled events as well.

Towards the end of the show, TnT spoke with Rob McCartney of Channel 7. He had stopped by the station to make his own donation to the cause. Rob spent some time on the phone with TnT talking about the events that took place in the newsroom all day yesterday. Their coverage of Air Force One’s landing and the President’s brief stop in Omaha were discussed and Rob shared a story about his daughter offering up some of her own money as a donation.

Well, that’s it for the update. Tune in tomorrow from 5:30am to 10am for another show and then visit here in the afternoon for the Thursday update. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
