TnT Show 09-19-2001

Wednesday 9-19-01

Todd and Tyler started off this morning’s show by talking about a list of songs a competing radio company, Clear Channel, has distributed to their stations. The list detailed songs that their consultants deemed insensitive and unsuitable for them to play. Some of the songs on the list, in one way or another, vaguely had something to do with crashing buildings, airplanes, fire, heaven or other references that one might think somehow relate to the incidents that occurred last Tuesday. There were also many songs on the list that had very little, if nothing at all to do with such sensitive topics. The guys spent some time poking fun at their competitors and they also turned their attention to the world of consultants, who they’ve had past unpleasant encounters with. Throughout the early part of the show, TnT returned to their discussion of the songs and the destructive nature of radio consultants several times.

Larry the Cable Guy phoned in this morning and delivered a commentary on people who are price gouging in an effort to make a profit from the terrorist attacks in New York City, Pennsylvania and Washington DC last week. It was a pretty funny commentary this morning. Also, remember that Todd and Tyler will be bringing Larry to the stage on Friday night at the Royal Grove in Lincoln. I believe you can still get tickets by phoning Ticket Masters so check into it if you’d like to see the show.

Dr. Ed joined Todd and Tyler this morning for a few hours. Even though he visited last week, TnT invited Dr. Ed to join them today because last week Dr. Ed seemed to be overshadowed by the aftermath of the hijacked planes that took place the day before his last visit. Dr. Ed spent the morning engaging in conversation with TnT, as well as answering some of their questions. He also took lots of calls and answered listener’s questions about a variety of topics including blood pressure, peach fuzz face, bi-uvula syndrome (which I have and just always thought I was a freak), black urine, people with extra heart valves and the body’s ability to act as a barometer. Dr. Ed will stop back in within the next few weeks so stay tuned.

Unexplained quote of the day from Dr. Ed: “Dr. Ed’s feel good program for the wrist.”

Boogie-woogie pianist, Bob Malone stopped in studio for a while this morning and hung out with TnT. He performed two awesome songs that really sounded great. You can catch him all over the place this week including at Trovado’s tonight for a CD release party, tomorrow at the Music Box, Friday at the Lincoln Homers and he’ll also be performing with Blue House at McCormick’s on Saturday. If you get the chance to see his show, don’t miss it!

Later in the show, TnT played the entire “We Are The Show” song recorded in studio in 1997 which included TnT singing along with a plethora of old, retired and/or dead running characters who used to phone the show and try to make it their own on a regular basis. I don’t exactly remember how they brought the song up but it was a nice piece of nostalgia to hear it again, as I was one of the losers in studio singing my squeaky ass off that day. By the way, you can get your own copy of “We Are The Show” on TnT’s CD, “Greetings From Throckmorton” which is going to be re-released soon! Stay tuned for further details.

To wrap up the show, Todd scolded Donnie for squashing his banana. I could end the paragraph there but for your sake, I’ll elaborate because the conversation surrounding the squashed banana was really odd but very funny. It turns out that Todd’s breakfast, the banana in question, was sitting on the table in TnT’s office. Donnie, jacked up on 3 pots of coffee, was jumping from one piece of furniture to another within the office for no apparent reason when he somehow landed upon the banana. Realizing his mistake and thinking it wouldn’t be noticed, he placed the smushed fruit back where it was and didn’t say anything about it. Imagine Todd’s surprise when he went to retrieve his breakfast and found nothing more than a bendy, squishy pile of brown, bruised banana still neatly, yet partially, wrapped in it’s formerly glorious yellow wrapper de la nature.

Well, that’s all for the Wednesday edition of the TnT show update. Tune in from 5:30am to 10am tomorrow for another show and then check back here in the afternoon for the update. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
