TnT Show 10-17-2001

Wednesday 10-17-01

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning by discussing all of the anthrax scares across the nation. They found it ridiculous that some local people were so concerned about a white, powdery substance that they phoned the authorities to have things checked out. Specifically, a sorority girl in Omaha, a cabinet/furniture manufacturer and a housewife. TnT wondered why anyone would send anthrax to a college girl, a cabinet maker or a middle-aged woman in a small Nebraska town and expressed their displeasure with how those people taxed resources (time and manpower) that could have been better used elsewhere. The guys also talked about Todd’s golf outing this afternoon with his girlfriend’s mother. Donnie and Tyler piled on Todd for going golfing with his possible future mother-in-law throughout much of the show, claiming that Todd was whipped.

Also early in the show, the guys read another hate e-mail that complained about TnT’s Husker talk as well as bitching about TnT’s stance on pit bulls. The author of the e-mail made reference about wondering what the 15-month-old baby did to anger the dog. The guys became upset at that point because the small child did nothing to anger the dog! The kid was only 15-months-old and was probably just lying on the damn floor!

Trisha Meuret from Channel 7 came in again today to cover the news and entertainment portion of the show for Brian, who is on vacation in the Bahamas until next week. During her time with TnT this morning, she did the news and entertainment newscasts as well as discussing the news business and news consultants with TnT. Trisha will be back in studio tomorrow so make sure to tune in.

An article in the paper by Tom Shatel lead TnT into a discussion about the Husker’s schedule. According to Tom’s article, he didn’t like the idea of the Huskers playing night games due to television scheduling contracts and such. Tom alluded to the inconvenience of night games for all of the Husker fans that want to visit Memorial Stadium. TnT thought that his idea was pretty stupid because more people will be able to see the game on TV than in the stadium and if the Huskers have to schedule a night game, it’s better for Husker fans in general. When the games are rescheduled for a television broadcast, more people can see them. The guys felt that Tom wasn’t being sympathetic to the normal, every day Husker fan that doesn’t have the opportunity to go to the games like he and others in the media do.

TnT spoke with author/writer Frank DeFord today. Frank was promoting his new novel titled, “The Other Adonis”, which is about a guy who claims to be the reincarnated soul of a man in a painting that’s more than 100 years old. The guys discussed the book and how Frank got the idea for it before moving on to discussing his other works. Frank wrote a book that was adapted into a movie called, “Everybody’s All American” and he also makes appearances on the television show “Real Sports”. The guys spent some time talking about a variety of the “Real Sports” stories Frank has done as well as discussing his writings for Sports Illustrated. It was a very cool interview and you will probably be able to catch it re-aired on the Saturday “Best Of” show.

Larry the Cable Guy checked in this morning and talked a little baseball playoffs before delving into his commentary about the recent anthrax scares. He also mentioned that his new CD, “Lord, I Apologize” will be in stores on October 30th and that he would be getting TnT some advanced copies to give to their listeners shortly.

Towards the end of the show, Tyler’s fiancé Becky phoned in and shared a funny story about Tyler’s dad. Becky dropped Ed off at the airport yesterday for his return trip to Pennsylvania and while they were waiting for boarding, the two got into a conversation about one of Tyler’s friends. During the talk, Ed mentioned to Becky that he has liked a lot of Tyler’s girlfriends in the past but just about the time he really starts to like them, Tyler dumps the girl. That was pretty much the end of the conversation. Becky was waiting for Ed to add something like, “well, until he met you, that is”, but it never came. It was pretty amusing. The guys phoned Ed and joked with him for a while about the conversation. They also talked a bit about his trip back home, the airport security and more.

Tomorrow, Todd and Tyler are going to do a “Flip ya for it” contest. The idea behind the contest is that people are to bring to the station an electronic item worth $100 or more. Then, two contestants will call heads or tales on a coin toss. Whoever wins the coin toss will be awarded with tickets to a Husker game or the WWF show that is coming up a week from today. The loser will have to watch as whatever item he/she brought gets destroyed on the radio. Tune in very early tomorrow for full details of the event.

Well, that’s the update today. Tune in tomorrow from 5:30am to 10am for another show and then check back here in the afternoon for the update. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
