TnT Show 01-28-2002

Monday 1-28-02

Todd and Tyler started off their show today by discussing the NFL games that were played over the weekend. As it turns out, this year we are not going to have an all Pennsylvania Super Bowl as some expected. Tyler didn’t seem incredibly bummed about his Steelers loss, stating that he was over it about an hour after the game. He’s even going so far as to cheer on the Rams in the Super Bowl. Todd, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to have any interest in either of the two Super Bowl bound teams. It sounds like he lost most of his NFL interest after his Vikings were done for back in week 6.

On a related note, Todd mentioned last week on the air that he wanted Trav to hook him up with a $100 bet on one of this weekend’s games. To check up on him, Todd called Travis to see if he indeed did put his bet in just prior to the game’s start but Travis said he did not. Because Trav didn’t set the bet for him, Todd lost out on some cash. During their discussion of this, Donnie mentioned that Travis had done a similar thing to him on at least two prior occasions, not placing bets that would have ended up as winners. When Travis arrived, the guys spent some time giving him crap about the whole betting situation and watched Trav back peddle as he tried to unassociated himself with gambling activities.

Brian came in and did the news and entertainment reports this morning. He covered a variety of topics in the news as TnT discussed them. A couple of the more talked about topics included discussion of a realtor in the paper was complaining about possibly having to spend a second Christmas in a $700,000 home and how the local news sensationalized a tragic event by teasing a car accident in New Mexico that involved a couple of people from Nebraska. Brian also read yet another wedding announcement full of whack whack self-congratulatory elitist bull crap today. The guys pondered exactly what “the Order of Omega” was, as mentioned several times in the wedding announcement, before getting a call from a listener who told them that it’s an elitist group within fraternities and sororities for those who excel above and beyond the other elitist people.

Brian also spent some time talking with the guys about a recent Springfield robbery that affected him. He told TnT that he has a rented storage unit in Springfield where he’s been storing his dormant mowing and snow blowing equipment. Also in the unit was a small motorcycle he had for his nephew that Brian had planned to sell this summer when the weather got nicer because his nephew wouldn’t fit the motorcycle. Well, over the weekend someone broke into the storage unit and stole the motorcycle, leaving all of Brian’s expensive lawn and snow equipment as it was. He speculated that kids had to have done it because if the thief had wanted to steal anything for cash, the lawn equipment was worth much more than the motorcycle. TnT talked about the theft for a bit as Donnie wondered how Brian was able to afford two trucks, two cars, a Harley, lawn and snow equipment and a little motorcycle on a part-time news chick’s salary.

The guys got into a lengthy discussion this morning about super volcanoes. At some point over the weekend, both Todd and Donnie caught a show on the Discovery Channel about how Yosemite National Park could be the top of a huge super volcano and, according to some scientists who have studied the change in the depth of a lake in the area, could blow a 50 mile lid off of a potential super volcano in the near future and kill most of the northern hemisphere. Tyler didn’t seem to dig the very interesting discussion of super volcanoes and proceeded to make fun of Todd for being paranoid about such a phenomenon, blaming Todd’s pot use as the paranoia culprit. It was pretty funny stuff but Todd and Donnie did have a legitimate point in talking about super volcanoes; the concept is pretty interesting. Tomorrow, Todd and Donnie are going to discuss the mathematical possibilities of space junk landing upon one’s head so make sure to tune in early.

The Todd and Tyler Traveling Dodge Ball All Star team is headed to Iowa this Wednesday for the Violation of Villisca! So far, no love or smack from the Villisca team, fans, or spectators has come in to the TnT show. The guys seemed a little disappointed that the Villisca team wasn’t running any smack yet but were sure more would come in on game day. At the end of the show, Big Pussy came in studio and talked about his hometown team for a bit. He also shared a story about how when he and Donnie recently went to the school to scout it out, he saw a student get yelled at by the principal for calling Big Pussy “Big Pussy” in school. Villisca, The Todd and Tyler Traveling Dodge Ball All Stars are calling you out! You better phone the guys tomorrow and Wednesday, or be known as the floating turd of a team that was too scared to stand up to the mighty power of the Todd and Tyler Traveling Dodge Ball All Star.

The last hour of the show this morning was dedicated as a tribute to Dodge Count Duke. A longtime friend of the show, Todd and Tyler personally, and many, many past and current regular contributors to TnT’s program, Duke passed away last Friday morning at 39 years of age after battling medical problems for some time. To celebrate his life and friendship, TnT played a variety of audio clips of Duke from past shows and opened up the phone lines. Many of Duke’s friends checked in to share their memories, thoughts, and prayers including Joe from Blue House, Charlie, Doug, Child Prodigy, the Anti-Husker Fan, some of his non-show related friends, and a plethora of other Todd and Tyler listeners. Duke’s passing was obviously hard for everyone who knew him in real life and from his time on the TnT show. I can honestly say that the hour TnT spent celebrating Duke was one of the most touching and hard to listen to hours of the TnT show I have ever heard. Tears were being held back all over Omaha this morning, but by many of us, not held back for very long. I feel as though I should be writing more about Duke today but I don’t seem to have the words. Duke, we’ll all miss you, God damn it.

Well, that’s the update for today. Tune in tonight at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay and then join TnT again tomorrow morning at 5:30am for another show. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
