TnT Show 01-30-2002

Wednesday 1-30-02

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning by discussing Duke’s funeral yesterday. They said it was a pretty touching ceremony and they had as good of a time celebrating Duke’s life as one could have while attending such an event. They met Duke’s mom, who is a listener, and she thanked them for their kind words about her son and their friend. To bring some form of closure to the situation, some of Duke’s friends took a portion of his ashes out for a while after the service. Charlie took Duke to the Rusty Rooster for one last drink with his best friend. If that thought doesn’t choke you up, you have no heart. Later, the ashes were retrieved by more friends who toasted Duke with some funky feet smelling berry wine and said their goodbyes. Throughout the show, TnT got calls from people who attended the funeral and had stories to share about yesterday, including some calls about Duke’s life as well as that funky wine that his friends toasted him with.

The guys talked a bit about the President’s State of the Union Address that aired on TV last night. Tyler didn’t get to see it because he crashed out at 7:30pm but Todd watched enough of the event to notice that Laura Bush claps like one of those wind-up monkeys that bangs the small symbols together. The guys speculated that her awkward clapping style could be attributed to the skin tightening face-lifts Mrs. Bush has gone through. On a related note, TnT spent a little time talking about how Bush’s niece was http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/01/29/jeb...s/index.html” target=blank>busted for trying to buy prescription Xanax. Check out the picture of this beauty queen. If she’s just not the hottest woman in the world, I don’t know who is. Her freak’n eyes don’t work right!

A new Tony Bologna song made its debut on the show today and after hearing it, tonight’s 3rd Shift Replay will probably be your last chance to hear it ever again. The song was about Brian, as far as anyone could tell, and was pretty much a mess of semi-organized fart noises, Jews harps, kazoos, and indistinguishable lyrics. Just thinking about the song has sucked any further thought out of my head so I’ll just move on now.

Donnie came in the studio today and told TnT that he got out of a ticket yesterday while on his way to Duke’s service. He was somewhere near Fremont and had come to an intersection that wasn’t busy, later identified as the most dangerous intersection in the state. Because he was running late, he plowed (sorry Brian) through the intersection and was quickly pulled over by an officer he didn’t see prior to breaking the law. After writing out the ticket, the officer asked Donnie where he was going. Donnie told him and then the officer put two and two together, realized who Donnie was and who’s funeral he was on the way to attend and then let Donnie off. The officer also offered some kind words to Duke’s family and friends.

Also relating to Donnie, later in the show the guys spent some time talking about recent loans totaling $1100 that both TnT had a part in giving Donnie. Due to some funky bubble payment on his mortgage, Donnie needed some extra cash to cover the bill. TnT stepped in and helped him out. Donnie is planning to pay the guys back by not accepting $100 monthly from each of them that he normally gets for helping them out with the Schrier Ford commercials. The guys talked a bit about how they will be getting mathematically paid back but said that it sounded weird to them to think that they’d be getting paid back by not having to pay Donnie each month. It was weird, I’m confused, one of those days, ya know?

The guys spent time this morning discussing tonight’s dodge ball game in Villisca, Iowa. TnT received some calls and e-mails from Villiscillians who wanted to spread the love and run some smack. For the most part, the smack was pretty weak, one caller taking some pretty pathetic pot shots at Joe from Blue House. At one point, TnT spoke with Big Pussy’s mother. She runs a hairdresser shop called, “Mrs. Pussy’s Hair”, or something like that. She talked with the guys about the feel of the town and the inevitable huge turnout for tonight’s game. The event is beginning at 5:30pm with a soup feed, to be followed up by the doge ball game at 7:30pm. It should be an awesome event so if you are in the area make sure to stop by and see the Todd and Tyler Traveling Dodge Ball All Stars tonight.

Larry the Cable Guy checked in today and delivered a commentary on the new gender-friendly bible. Larry, as you can imagine, didn’t seem to like the idea. There’s really not a whole lot to say about Larry’s call this morning so I’ll move on.

Todd and Tyler spoke with Erin Moriarty of CBS’s “48 Hours” today. She detailed tonight’s program, which will include features about the Winter Olympic security as well as a story about a secret non-governmental group that is seeking out and identifying a variety of terrorists within the country. It sounds like it will be a pretty good show so make sure to set your VCRs to record it tonight, as I’m sure you all will be attending the Violation of Villisca dodge ball match.

TnT continued their discussion of cremation throughout the remainder of the show. They took calls from listeners who had stories to share about what their families have done with urns, some families opting to dress the urns up on holidays in order to feel as though they are including the deceased in the holiday celebrations. TnT also spent some time discussing what they want done to their bodies when they pass away. It sounded like Tyler wants to be buried in Pennsylvania but I wasn’t clear on whether or not he would prefer a burial or to be cremated. Todd hadn’t put much thought into it prior to this morning’s show either. He pondered for a while and then thought he might have his ashes scattered in the desert and on his favorite ski slope in the mountains. For obvious reasons, TnT plan on saving Donnie’s ass for a while when he dies. The entire discussion was pretty interesting and made you think about your own mortality. Do you know what you want to happen to you when you die? I realize rhetorical questions in the update are pretty stupid but that’s the question that popped into my head as TnT were talking about it so I’m sure you’ll now wonder yourself, too.

Well, that’s the update for today. Join the Todd and Tyler Traveling Dodge Ball All Stars tonight for the Violation of Villisca. Doors open at 5:30pm and the game will begin at 7:30pm. Tune in at 10pm tonight for the 3rd Shift Replay and then rejoin TnT tomorrow at 5:30am, as the guys will give details of their victory over Villisca. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
