TnT Show 02-01-2002

Friday 2-01-02

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning by playing “Black Friday” and recognizing the beginning of this year’s Black History Month. Tony joined them in studio for the celebration and spent some time talking with TnT about the subject. TnT’s “Moments in Black History” featuring Tony made their return this morning and in the first one, Tony explained the origins of the N-bomb. Admittedly, TnT thought that particular moment was a bit harsh so they didn’t replay it later in the show. Instead, they played a different moment with Tony alluding to how Will Smith isn’t really black. That led into a brief discussion about why some famous black actors, sports figures, and musicians are more embraced by the black community than others.

Also early in the show, the guys read over a few hate e-mails, one of which was from someone who only liked Brian because of his Republican stance. From there, TnT had an on-air meeting with Donnie about a particular guest he had scheduled for an interview today. The guest was a male figure skater and Donnie thought the interview was timely because the Olympics are coming up soon and this guy actually skated in the Olympics once. Neither Todd nor Tyler really felt like they had anything to talk to the guy about and after some discussion, Donnie cancelled the interview.

Trisha Meuret from Channel 7 came in again this morning because Brian was out plowing snow. TnT phoned Brian several times throughout the show and for the most part, he just sounded mentally and physically drained. Trisha, on the other hand, was in fine form as she delivered the news and entertainment reports She talked with TnT briefly about JoJo the Monkey Boy and discussed her upcoming weekend trip to Kansas City for a bachelorette party where she and a bunch of her friends are going to look at strange throcks. Trisha will be joining TnT again following the next big snow so stay tuned.

Because of Black History Month, Todd and Tyler thought they would begin each of their shows in February with a song featuring the word “black” in the title. They came up with several on their own and then opened up their phone lines so listeners could participate in the list’s compilation. After a few minutes, the listeners had come up with around 20 songs that fit the concept and many more that were nowhere near what they were looking for. At that point, TnT noticed the reoccurrence of the strange phenomenon of listeners not listening. This happens once in a while and is a phenomenon yet to be explained by science. Within the few minutes TnT took calls and got suggestions from their listeners, they received many, many duplicate suggestions. It seemed to me that TnT were amazed at how they could get repeated suggestions within a 5 minute time span from people who were supposedly listening. Anyway, the guys will be featuring one “black” song each morning throughout the month.

Larry the Cable Guy checked in this morning with a very funny commentary on Janet Reno passing out. There must be an inside joke between Travis and the Cable Guy that no one really seems to get, though. You see, the last few times Larry has phoned the show, Travis has gotten extremely enthusiastic about asking when Larry will be revisiting Omaha. Each time he’s done this, Larry offered no acknowledgement of Travis’s inquiry, or an answer to the question. Maybe someday we’ll figure out what’s behind Travis’s behavior so we can all share the laugh instead of just him. By the way, the Blue Collar Tour is in Des Moines tonight so if you’re headed that direction, go see Larry and the other neck comics this evening.

JR and Gunner from Acoustic Groove came in today and played a couple of great sounding tunes for us all. After they performed their songs, they helped Todd and Tyler on their version of “Roger Van”. TnT wanted to complete the tune by Monday, as that’s when the preliminary hearing being held for the people involved in the Wayne Gimp tale is to take place. After several attempts at the song, TnT weren’t satisfied. They went to commercial and worked out the details and when they returned, the Acoustic Groove guys accompanied Tyler on the main vocals portion, being joined by Todd during the chorus. That particular arrangement seemed to yield the best results and the “Roger Van” song project was finally completed. By the way, you can catch Acoustic Groove performing at 132nd and Dodge Street at some place that I can’t spell and can’t find in the phone book. Also, Gunner will be beating the skins on Saturday night at the Fremont Keno Club so stop on out and see him too.

Peppered throughout this morning’s show were a variety of very bad “smack” phone calls and e-mails from Ralston residents trying to work up the Todd and Tyler Traveling Dodge Ball All Star team. Their scheduled game is to take place on Monday and so far, Ralston has offered up the most smack of all the scheduled teams. Unfortunately for them, their smack has been the most pitiful attempt at intimidation we’ve heard from a dodge ball opponent thus far. Maybe on Monday the Corkys inhabiting Ralston will be able to bring it a little harder by perhaps spending their weekends with a 3rd grade English book?

J Medicine Hat was supposed to join TnT this morning but either his horse got stuck in the show or he fell asleep in a satellite dish somewhere and was unable to make it to the studio. You can still catch him at the Funny Bone all weekend. Call 493-8036 for your reservations.

To wrap up this morning’s show, Donnie went deep into the TnT archives and pulled out a 1994 version of Todd and Tyler’s first musical collaboration, a song about Tanya Harding called “Tanya” (to the sounds of “Layla”). Tanya has recently been in the news and with the guys from Acoustic Groove being in studio and the fact that their old band Living Proof originally performed the song, it was time for it’s triumphant return to the airwaves. TnT played the old song and it still sounded great. In fact, it may appear on an upcoming CD in the near future so keep your eyes out.

Well, that’s the update for today. Tune in tomorrow morning for the Best Of show featuring Todd and Tyler’s tribute to Dodge County Duke. Sunday night’s 3rd Shift Replay airing at 10pm will be a replay of this morning’s show. Make sure to rejoin TnT on Monday morning at 5:30am for another wonderful program as the guys prepare to knock the living crap out of the Ralston dodge ball team. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
