TnT Show 02-07-2002

Thursday 2-7-02

Todd and Tyler started off their show today by discussing how Frank Solich isn’t allowing Husker player Omaha.com target=blank>Manaia Brown out of his football scholarship because it is possible he was illegally contacted by another school. TnT have mentioned over the past few days that they feel the guy should be released. Whether or not his father is actually sick, a pretty good chance considering his dad is 80+ years old, if Brown doesn’t want to play for the Huskers he shouldn’t have to. The guys got a kick out of Senator Ernie Chamber’s comments about Solich, where he referred to the coach as a "would-be slave master”.

Also early in the show, TnT spent some time talking about an Omaha man named John Carroll who was chosen to participate in CBS’s http://www.cbs.com/primetime/survivo...s/john.shtml” target=blank>“Survivor: Marquesas”. He has recently returned to town but due to CBS’s strict secrecy policy surrounding the show, he’s not talking to anyone about what happened on the island, including detailing who won Survivor 4 that will begin airing on Channel 3 on February 28th. An article in the paper interviewed Carroll’s old Midland college cross-country coach and TnT were very amused, yet perplexed by the coach’s comments regarding Carroll. It has been about 18 years since Carroll was on the Midland coach’s cross-country team yet the coach still seemed to hold some resentment towards the Survivor participant, stating that he couldn’t cut it in cross-country years ago and wasn’t a very focused person so he didn’t think John could win Survivor. Several people who know the Midland coach checked in throughout the show to comment on him, all the while TnT pondered how the Midland coach could hold any sort of resentment to a guy who was on his team nearly 20 years ago. Isn’t it possible that people might have matured or changed in 20 years?

Todd and Tyler got a call from Alex their homeless buddy today. Last week Alex phoned TnT from the hospital, where he had checked himself in for pneumonia. It turns out that Alex actually had a heart attack, not pneumonia. TnT talked to him about his situation, asked who was watching over his shed while he was away, and then found out that the hospital is planning on moving him to an assisted living facility that has a full-time nurse on staff to make sure he recovers. Before TnT ended Alex’s call, the hobo once again begged for more stuff. He asked any TnT listener near the St. Joseph hospital to bring him some candy because one of the people who cleans the rooms there had accidentally thrown out his only piece of candy, a half eaten chocolate bar. Alex seemed to be having a serious jones for sweets. I’m sure we’ll hear from Alex again soon so stay tuned.

Brian came in to do the news this morning and was a little hung over. He went out drinking with the radio station’s sales staff last night. TnT went along, too, as the evening was sort of a station-wide celebration of Todd and Tyler’s excellent ratings as well as being a nice “get to know who you work with better” situation. TnT both realized that they had to get up early so they left the party early. Brian, on the other hand, stayed out much later and ended up getting sloshed. TnT gave him a hard time about being hung over throughout the show even though, unlike former news chicks, groggy Brian seemed to perform pretty well this morning.

After Brian’s entertainment report, he read over a list of the most embarrassing questions about sex that women have as reported by “Complete Woman” magazine. Basically, the questions involved things that might be a little embarrassing when it comes to one’s vagina. For example, the topics covered in the magazine, thoroughly and humorously elaborated on by Todd, Tyler, Donnie and Brian included the proper amount of vaginal discharge, the tightness variance of the vagina when one hasn’t had sex for a while, the proper way to lube up for anal sex, the proper way to wipe one’s own pie, rectal itching, saggy boobs, butt pimples, and pee leaking caused by sneezes or laughing.

TnT spoke with Channel 42’s meteorologist http://www.kptm.com/kptm/news/bio/dean” target=blank>Dean Wysocki. Dean is going to join the guys in their broom ball game in a couple of weeks. TnT re-extended their olive branch of piece to the Pamida model and asked Dean to pass along the info to her. Then they spent some time talking about the game and weather. When further details of the broom ball game are made available, I’ll write about them on these updates. Check back daily.

A listener named Jack phoned in from the top of Jack’s in Elkhorn this morning. He is on top of the building as part of a fundraiser sponsored in part by Schrier Ford as a breast cancer awareness campaign. The fundraiser is for two Elkhorn ladies who have been diagnosed with the disease. TnT got the details of the event, which include a concert taking place from 3pm to 9pm on Saturday as well as a silent auction of a Geo provided by Schrier. If you’re in the area, please stop by Jacks and make a donation.

Deb Ward from Channel 3 joined TnT again this morning for the out of town Travis. As she arrived, the guys spoke with Travis from the Indianapolis airport and talked about last night’s Creighton game, as well as how he totally blew his Weight Watchers program after the broadcast. When Travis hung up, Deb read the sports and spent the remainder of her visit joining in on the topics of the day and having a good time hanging out with TnT.

The guys got a call from Bobby Danenhauer today. He’s a Millard student who recently agreed to play football for UNO. Consequently, his father is the UNO athletic director. When Deb Ward read over the sports report Donnie prepared for her, one of the lines in news bit was about how Bobby agreed to play for UNO because his dad is the athletic director. Well, shortly after the sports, Bobby phoned TnT to talk about his decision. He said that his father being the athletic director might have had something to do with his selection of UNO but mostly he just wants to play football and thought he would have a better chance at starting here in Omaha compared to being a walk-on at a bigger college. He also talked about some of the other schools he visited and how the UNO dorms played a part in choosing the university his father works for. Bobby admitted that without dorms, he most likely wouldn’t have chosen UNO.

David Beck from the Funny Bone joined TnT today. He and Sean Gnant will be performing before the headliner Mark Lundholm. David joined in on this morning’s conversations and seemed to enjoy his time with TnT. He’s a really funny guy so I strongly suggest you get out to see him this weekend at the Bone. Call 493-8036 for reservations.

Tyler’s fiancé, Becky came to the radio station this morning with her friend Tracy. Becky had talked Tracy into letting the guys photograph her mouth as part of their “Hairlip” CD cover search. Donnie took a close-up photo and I hope to be receiving some of the entries soon so I can post them for all of you to see. I’m sure that once I post some photos, TnT will let you know about it on the show so make sure to stay tuned. All of you ladies who haven’t yet sent in a photo of your lips or stopped by the station to get your mouth photographed, e-mail TnT your photos today!

To end the show, TnT spent a little time talking about phobias. Brian read over a list of the top 10 phobias in America. As he went down the list, the guys described each and talked about whether or not that particular phobia was one that affected them. Many of the fears on Brian’s list related to illness or death and TnT thought that was a bit odd. They wondered why fear of cancer and fear of dying weren’t considered so similar that they would be included under the same category. TnT also seemed surprised that fear of spiders, Brian’s biggest fear, was the #1 phobia in America.

Well, that’s the big Thursday update. Tune in tonight at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay of today’s show and then rejoin TnT tomorrow morning at 5:30am for their Friday show. Mark Lundholm from the Funny Bone will join them and the guys might have a few other surprises up their sleeves for tomorrow’s program. Don’t miss it. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
