Thursday 4-4-02

Todd and Tyler started off their show today by discussing the ABC special on the Catholic Church that aired last night featuring the Father Herek story. The guys said that they got information from the TV show that they hadn’t known before about Herek, such as the existence of his trailer of love. They didn’t like the way Omaha was portrayed by the show and said that they have had to defend the city to their friends around the country in the past, telling them that Omaha’s not all rednecks, combines, and Catholics. Throughout much of the morning, TnT continued discussing the problems within the church with Travis and a few of the in studio guests who later arrived.

Also early on today, Todd and Tyler ambushed “Star Wars” fans by, out of the blue, giving the ending to the second movie, which is due out in May. Several times throughout today’s show the guys replayed the audio clips and let Donnie give details of what will take place in the new movie. Blaming the money-hungry marketing machine that is George Lucas, TnT and Donnie have said that if it were not for the release of the audio book and all of the merchandise prior to the movie’s initial debut, they wouldn’t have the information necessary to spoil the plot for the Star Wars fans. The guys did say though that they got their information from a web site created by someone who worked on the set, not the actual authorized audio book, but that web site seemed reliable enough to them. Later, TnT were quite amused when Donnie said he was getting “you guys are assholes” calls from Star Wars fans who were pissed at them for ruining the new movie.

Early in the program, the guys got a call from a listener who said his wife used to listen with him but stopped about two years ago. TnT inquired as to why she decided she didn’t like them anymore and the caller said that his wife thinks TnT are too hard on women. The guys phoned her, Susan, to try to win her back as a listener. Initially, she said stated that she does think the guys are too hard on women, a statement that was rebutted by TnT as they reiterated how much they love women. Then, after further investigation, TnT found out that the lady works in Glenwood with the wife of Jared Cruise, both the town and man TnT hammered pretty heavily about two years ago, oddly around the same time Susan stopped listening. TnT sort of made up with her but before the call ended, she said something to the effect of, “stop hammering on Glenwood” and it seemed as though all of their good will may have been for nothing.

Jack Daum, coach of the Creighton baseball team joined Todd and Tyler in studio today. TnT talked quite a bit of baseball with Jack including discussion of this year’s team, his opponent’s coach wimping out and calling off a game because the coach is sick, switch pitching and hitting and more. When Travis came in, the talk seemed to switch to how Travis has been “encouraging” his 3-year-old son to throw left-handed, as to give him a better shot for a career in baseball. Everyone seemed to pile on Attaboy Trav, one caller claiming that Travis was going to turn his kid into a Corky if such “encouragement” continued. TnT also continued their discussion of the problems in the Catholic Church while Jack was in studio but Jack seemed to back off the microphone a bit. You can catch Creighton playing at 3pm on Friday, a noon double header on Saturday and sometime around 1pm on Sunday. I’m sure we’ll hear from Jack Daum again in the near future so stay tuned.

Tim Harrison from the Funny Bone swung by and hung out with the guys for a while. He joined in on the topics of the day and seemed to have a pretty good time with TnT. 5 Story Fall dropped by and played a couple of songs for Todd and Tyler. They are appearing at the Ranch Bowl tonight for a special benefit for a young lady named Sarah. She’s got some pretty serious medical problems and tonight’s benefit is to help her cover those costs. The doors open at 7pm and the price for admission to see 5 Story Fall and two other bands is only $5, although any donation above and beyond that would be greatly appreciated. Before TnT left the air today, they got a call from Sarah who thanked them for mentioning her benefit on the air. Folks, if you’ve got nothing to do this evening, stop on out to the Ranch Bowl for some great music and help out Sarah!

Towards the end of the program, TnT spoke with Miguel Ferrer, currently on the TV show “Crossing Jordan”. They discussed his past performances in “Twin Peaks”, “Robocop” and other films before talking briefly about his new show. According to Miguel, the star of “Crossing Jordan” is fun to hang out with because she’s got a nasty mouth and is like hanging out with a good drinking buddy who just happens to be super hot. Miguel also talked to TnT about the band he is in as well as discussing his cousin, actor George Clooney. Before the end of the conversation, Miguel shared a story about how he felt up Marilyn Monroe when he was 6 months old. He was pretty cool with TnT so keep in mind that you can catch him on NBC’s “Crossing Jordan” each week.
