TnT Show 04-09-2002

Tuesday 4-9-02

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning by discussing last night’s dodge ball game against the Millard West team. Even though their opponents didn’t read the rules sheet before the contest and cheated throughout the evening, the Todd and Tyler Traveling Dodge All Stars emerged victorious with a 3-2 win. TnT discussed the ceremony before the game, which included a poem written about Svitak by a friend of the family as well as a wreath presentation to the mother of the fallen soldier. The turnout for the event was great and more than $3000 was raised just at the door alone.

The dodge ball talk continued and the guys spent some time focusing on some of the rowdy students they encountered last night. There was one section in particular that was quite verbal, possibly a little too dirty for what Todd and Tyler thought high school kids should be. They took quite a few phone calls from listeners who attended last night’s game and everyone seemed to agree that it was a spectacular event. As the conversation continued, it sounded like the guys may be doing some team cutting next year. TnT seemed disappointed in the arms of some of their teammates last night and the overall performance of some of them throughout this season.

Todd and Tyler spoke to Mr. Svitak’s mother, Rose this morning. She was in attendance at last night’s dodge ball game. She wanted to thank TnT and their staff, along with the folks from Millard West who put on the event. She talked with the guys about the evening and it seemed like she really got caught up in the excitement of the games. Todd and Tyler thanked her for coming to the event and wished Rose and her family good fortune in their time of sorrow.

Early in the show, Todd told us about how his girlfriend got into a little bit of a fender bender yesterday before the dodge ball match. Todd forgot his jersey and sent Christy back home to get it and at some point between Todd’s place and the school, right around 144th and Harrison, she rear-ended someone. Todd said he blamed himself for the accident because had he not forgotten his jersey, Christy wouldn’t have had to drive to get it and therefore wouldn’t have been on the road at the time of the accident. Tyler and Donnie thought Todd was just being pussy whipped by claiming responsibility for an accident he wasn’t involved in and from there, things went a bit loopy for a while. Donnie called in as a variety of famous people who had been in car accidents, to which each fake celebrity blamed Todd. The listeners, too, joined in on the concept and called in with their own celebrity car accident calls to blame Todd as well.

The dodge ball talk continued when Travis arrived. TnT had heard that the report during Channel 3’s sportscast last night featured only clips of Travis playing dodge ball. They joked about it for a bit and gave Trav a hard time when he came in. It was all in good fun, though. The guys also mentioned that Channel 3 wasn’t the only television station that covered the event. Believe it or not, Channel 6 made it out and did a nice piece, including a TnT interview that they aired on their 10pm newscast. Where was Channel 7? No one knows.

The guys spent some time discussing entertainment sacrifices couples make for each other. The topic came up during an early morning discussion between Travis and TnT about country music. Somehow country music came up in conversation and TnT seemed to get a little pissed that Brian, Travis, and Donnie like country music and know so much about it. During that conversation, Travis asked Tyler if he would go to a country music concert with Becky if she asked and Tyler replied, “No”. Travis then said Tyler was selfish and a verbal rumble ensued. It was hilarious. After the smoke and flames had burned out in the studio and the arguments stopped, TnT opened up the phone lines to discuss entertainment sacrifices their listeners make when it comes to their significant others. To primer the discussion, TnT spent some time talking about television shows, theater visits and movie rental disagreements between themselves and their ladies. Some listeners checked in but the topic dwindled after a while.

Creighton baseball coach Jack Daum talked with TnT briefly this morning in regards to today’s 3pm game against UNL. They talked a little bit about the rivalry between the two teams that was sparked by some past recruiting practice thing in the past. TnT will be speaking with Jack throughout the season so if you missed the conversation with the coach today, stay tuned.

From “Watching Ellie” on NBC, TnT spoke to Lauren Bowles, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s real life sister as well as her characters sister on the show. They discussed the show and how it is “on the bubble” in regards to whether or not it will be picked up for next season but Lauren seemed to think it would. The guys talked with her about her famous sister and how she helped to get Lauren her gig on “Watching Ellie”. She was pretty cool and seemed to enjoy her time with TnT, although she wouldn’t share any juicy childhood stories about Julia because “she’s my boss”.

After Travis did the sports report, he read last night’s “For What It’s Worth” report from the 10pm Channel 3 news. The topics of his editorial included the pot smoking (allegedly) Husker, the baboonish looking mascot for the Royals, and the Millard North soccer coach who’s being sued by the parents of a player for the kid’s lack of play time. TnT seemed to agree with everything in Trav’s editorial and then, once again, gave him a hard time for his self-indulgent dodge ball coverage of last night’s game. By the way, if you would like to comment on Travis’s “For What It’s Worth” editorial, you can e-mail him at Travis@kmtv3.com or phone his voice mail at 402-593-2706.

Once Brian concluded his entertainment report, the guys read over a list of TV shows that are “on the bubble”, those that might get cancelled depending on how they do over the next few weeks in the ratings. Brian read through he list and TnT had only seen or heard of some of the shows mentioned. Most of which, it seemed, they didn’t care one way or the other whether or not they got cancelled because they don’t watch the shows anyway.

To wrap up today’s show, TnT brought in Jose from the Spanish station down the hall. The guys spent some time talking about how Speedy Gonzalez was pulled from The Cartoon Network due to it’s racial slant on Mexicans. Jose, along with TnT, agreed that it was a bit stupid. The group also talked a little about boxing, the population of blonde Mexicans, and late-night Spanish channel soap operas from overseas that show nudity. It was yet another cool visit with Jose and hopefully he’ll join TnT in studio again in the near future.

Well, that’s it for the update today. Tune in tonight for the 3rd Shift Replay of today’s program and join TnT again tomorrow morning at 5:30am for another show. Trisha Meuret from Channel 7 will be sitting in for Brian, who will be taking care of some personal stuff tomorrow, and the guys are also slated for an in-studio visit from the sex queen Natasha Terry. It should be an interesting show so don’t miss it. Thanks for watching. Good night. –Corby-
