TnT Show 04-18-2002

Thursday 4-18-02

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning by talking about the Aerosmith “Icon” program that aired on MTV last night. Tyler thought that most of the show was pretty good, even though the artists giving tribute to the band all seemed to be the typical MTV variety. Tyler said he was actually impressed with Kid Rock’s performance as well as a few others and looked forward to watching the entire program, which he taped, later today.

During the first part of the show, TnT discussed a couple of other topics as well. Accurately, the guys talked about how bad afternoon talk radio is in this town. They weren’t just talking about sports radio shows like “Kiley and Booms”, who argue just for the sake of arguing, either. They said that the realm of non-sports talk radio available in the afternoons in Omaha is terribly boring. Then the guys mentioned, as they did yesterday, that Husker baseball seems to have taken over the eye of the sports world in the area and speculated on the reason baseball is now overshadowing Husker football when it never has before.

TnT got a report that a Quick Trip in the area had prematurely put out some “Hair Lip” CDs last night after Big Pussy received a call from a listener who said he had just purchased it and loved it. Big Pussy called James the Giant Peach and Peach squared things away with the store and got the CDs taken off the shelves until their official release on Saturday. The guys got a call from someone who bought “Hair Lip” last night and talked to him about the content of the CD as well as the artwork that accompanies it From the caller’s own account, “Hair Lip” kicks ass.

Brian came in to do the news and entertainment reports this morning as well as handling the sports report for the out-of-town Travis. He was sick as a dog and, before getting on the air this morning he nearly puked in the jock lounge while writing his news report. When he came in studio later, he sounded pretty bad and explained to TnT exactly what’s wrong with him. Donnie was a little vicious and told Brian to “either get better or die already” (I’m only slightly paraphrasing).

After the news, Brian gave Todd and Tyler a sex quiz from MTV. There were 21 questions on the quiz and after hearing the entire thing, it was less of an actual sex quiz and more of an awareness quiz. The types of questions related to STDs and myths about sex such as whether a woman could get pregnant by post-Diekman swallowing. It seemed that the quiz was targeted more to MTV’s core audience of 14-year-old kids, as apposed to adults who have been around a while like Todd and Tyler. TnT took the quiz anyway, all getting nearly perfect scores (with the exception of Donnie who scarily, yet not surprisingly missed many). It was during this sex quiz that someone, Tyler I believe, uttered the phrase “Humus Packed Vagina”. That on top of Brian’s sickly, raspy laugh caused a giggle-fest that infected everyone in the studio and, I assume based on my own reaction, many of us in the audience. The guys laughed so hard that they had to take a break to recoup before continuing with the show.

TnT spoke to coach Mike Hastings of the Lancers today and congratulated him on winning the USHL Coach Of The Year award. The guys asked the coach whether he was getting any sort of compensation for winning the award and Mike said he was. Then they talked a bit about the upcoming hockey matches the Lancers are taking part in. Mike also discussed how the team is already trying to build an Iowa fan base for the Lancers due to the upcoming move to Council Bluffs. Before they let him go, TnT asked the coach if he was looking at any other offers on the table to move up in the world as a hockey coach. Hastings said he is always looking to improve his career situation. That, folks, means that the Hastings might not be around forever. You may want to get out and see him in action before it’s too late.

Early in the show, TnT spent some time discussing various lakes in the area. The topic came up after the story about the Ralston school official who was busted for touching a cop’s junk somewhere near Lake Cunningham the other day. TnT discussed the whole “park humping” phenomenon as it relates to closeted gay guys and said there needs to be a straight humping park for people who want to have casual straight sex with strangers. Tyler lives near Lake Zorinsky so he suggested that area as the “slut park”. Mentioning that he wouldn’t mind seeing a straight couple or two banging away in Zorinsky when he goes on his afternoon bike rides around the lake, Tyler thought Zorinsky would be the perfect place for people to do such things, as it is already “the cheatingest park” in Omaha. Todd then told about he had sex at Lake Zorinsky a couple of years ago. From there, somehow, the guys got off on a tangent about how lake Zorinsky was created. They took calls on where the water came from, when it was built, whether or not Ed Zorinsky, killed by the Omaha Press Club Ball, was in the bottom of the lake and more. Brian even elaborated on seeing the lake filled in person when it was first dug. Throughout the show, references to a possible “Slut Park” being created in Omaha occasionally appeared as a topic of conversation.

Todd and Tyler got a surprise visit from their comedian friend Patrick Spring this morning. Patrick said he was on his way up north to perform and somewhere in Missouri(?) his car broke down. Not having enough cash for a bus ticket, he ended up buying a Dodge Spirit for $650 in order to continue his voyage. He figured, since he was driving through Omaha anyway, that he’d stop by and say hi to TnT. Patrick hung out for a while and joined in on the topics of the day. Although he will not be performing at the Funny Bone this weekend, he mentioned that he will be back in town some time in June. For further information on the Funny Bone’s upcoming acts, take a peak at the Funny Bone web site, Welcome To The Omaha Funny Bone.

Speaking of comedians who’s cars break down near Omaha, TnT phoned Ahzeem, who joined them in studio last Thursday. The guys had heard that Ahzeem suffered a heart attack while in town and phoned him to see if he was okay. He told TnT that he had taken his broken down car to a local shop to get it fixed and after having paid for the repairs, the shop told him his car still couldn’t be fixed. He said that’s what sent him over the edge and he started feeling sick. Sean Gnandt from the Funny Bone was with him and called for help. Well, it turns out that he didn’t actually have a heart attack and from the sounds of it, he may have had some sort of anxiety breakdown. Ahzeem said he is getting out of the hospital today and will be performing at the Funny Bone this evening. Stop on out and see Todd and Tyler’s favorite Muslim.

Towards the end of the show, Todd and Tyler made a couple of phone calls to Wakefield, NE. Earlier in the program, they had spent some time wondering what was happening in some of the big news stories they have talked about lately. It has been quite a while since they got any updates on the Wayne Gimp story or what’s happening with Putz in Bellevue. A listener e-mailed the guys some information about Roger Van (of the Wayne Gimp tale) and informed them that Van is living with his mother in Wakefield. To start, TnT called a floral shop in the small town to see if they had heard anything on the whereabouts of Roger Van and whether or not the closing of Van’s floral shop had affected their business. They were hung up on rather quickly so they moved to phoning the only “Van” listed in the phone book in Wakefield hoping it would be the home of Roger’s mother. Either Todd misdialed (that happens almost never!) or Mrs. Van has a fax machine because TnT were unable to get through. Perhaps the guys will continue investigating the stories that seem to have gone by the wayside lately.

Speaking of Roger Van, Todd and Tyler played their “Roger Van” song this morning. The song can be found on their new CD, “Hair Lip”, which goes on sale Saturday at all Homers and Quick Trip locations around town. TnT are going to be at the Council Bluffs QT on Broadway Saturday from 11 to 1pm and then they are headed to the 132nd and Center Street Homers for a 2 to 4pm visit. The first 50 people at both locations to approach the guys with their new “Hair Lip” CD will get a limited edition “Hair Lip” T-shirt. Make plans to visit Todd and Tyler on Saturday and if you don’t make it out, you will still be able to buy the new CD at Homers and Quick Trips at your convenience.

To wrap up the show this morning, Todd and Tyler spent some time discussing a Husker fan web site’s message board that included some posts about them. It seems that some Husker baseball fans are pissed at TnT for their comments about the Husker baseball team and hold resentment towards the guys for their past comments about the state of Nebraska as a whole, as well as the Husker football team. One person on the web site even accused them of being bandwagon fans of Creighton just to get under the skin of Husker sports fans. TnT pointed out that they are not Creighton bandwagon fans and have, after all, been speaking with Blue Jay baseball coach Jack Daum since they hit the air more than 8 years ago. As they read through the posts from the web site, there were a couple of people supporting Todd and Tyler and their show mixed in between all of the bashing. TnT seemed to get a kick out of it all

Well, that’s the 3-page Thursday update. If you’re not caught up on what took place during today’s Todd and Tyler show, tune in to Z-92 tonight at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay. Rejoin TnT tomorrow at 5:30am as they get the weekend started off right with their Friday show. Thanks for watching. Good night. –Corby-
