TnT Show 05-01-2002

Wednesday 5-1-02

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning by mentioning that they were missing Brian. To begin with, they thought he had worked a bit too hard mowing and joking yesterday and for that reason, he probably overslept. The guys ranted a bit about how the #1 morning show on the #1 station in town should be able to afford to pay their news guy a full-time salary so he doesn’t have to supplement his income with mowing. They tried to call Brian a few times to at least make sure he was okay. Eventually the sweepy widdle guy answered the phone and sped to work after Donnie woke him up. When he arrived later, Brian told TnT that his fat fingers had bumped the “off” button on his alarm clock instead of the snooze bar and that’s the reason he was late.

The guys spent some time discussing a variety of topics this morning while they were waiting for Brian to arrive and continuing discussing the issues well into the first newscast after Brian showed up. TnT debated Affirmative Action with Donnie (“Donnie hates these Affirmative Actions!”) and they talked about the big mountain lion migration that is headed to Omaha. One of the bigger topics early on this morning was about the West Side student who killed a man while drunk driving. His punishment was revealed and everyone seemed to agree that it was definitely not a tough enough punishment to fit the crime. From there, Donnie told TnT about masturbating in their office yesterday afternoon because of a required sample drop-off he had to make. During this discussion, while getting the details of exactly how Donnie got his sample into the little cup, Tyler made an analogy to the “milking of a snake for it’s venom”. A horrible visual popped into the collective head of Omaha that none of us may ever recover from.

Also early in the show, Tyler talked a bit about an outing a bunch of the office people had at a local bowling alley. He and Slave Boy Jeremy joined the group last night, some women in radio club, as they bowled at Mockingbird Lanes. Tyler not only won with the best overall score, but he also walked out of the alley wearing his rented bowling shoes. He wore his new kicks in this morning, saying that he planned to return them today. Tyler said he didn’t like the bowling shoes because they’re not as cool as they used to be (back when he ripped off a pair years ago). Now they are Velcro and not ties, which seemed to bum him out.

Mayor Mike Fahey joined TnT in studio this morning. He spent some time talking with the guys about a variety of topics dealing with Omaha including the recent Affirmative Action issue with the firemen, the progress of the arena and riverfront development, the water level of the Missouri River and how the Corp of Engineers’ suggested changes might effect it this summer, and more. The mayor also took phone calls from listeners who had questions. At one point in his visit, Todd and Tyler played the old clip of Brian’s attempt to interview Hal Daub a few years ago. Fahey seemed to get a kick out of it.

Larry the Cable Guy checked in this morning and delivered a commentary on how airport security should target Muslim men for searches because Muslim men are the ones who hijacked the September 11th airplanes, not old, white people. Larry also mentioned that he is going to have a big announcement during his Friday commentary so make sure you don’t miss that.

Travis came in this morning to cover the sports for Todd and Tyler. Before he did so, he talked with TnT about some of the “For What It’s Worth” reaction he received this week. During that time, the guys mentioned to Travis that Donnie had twisted off in the office yesterday and it sort of freaked Trav out. Attaboy yelled at Donnie, saying that he should have done it at the doctor’s office, not at work. The theory behind his statement was that the radio station is a place of business and one shouldn’t be tugging on it while at work. Todd seemed to back Donnie’s afternoon office twist session, though because he went through the same post-vasectomy circumstances a little over a year ago. Todd pointed out that, due to time constraints, Donnie’s best choice for a place to release his hounds was indeed in the office.

From there, the gang got into a discussion about Donnie’s “load size” (consequently, Donnie said he bowled with 8 pound balls last night). At that point, the terrible visual of Tyler’s early morning “milking a snake for venom” analogy popped back into my head and I blacked out. When I awoke, Travis was wrapping up his sports report. But before leaving for the day, TnT once again gave Travis a hard time for all of his modified racing cross talk with “Pos” on Channel 3. Trav still didn’t seem to agree that it’s bad television that is only interesting to a small group of people. You would think, judging by Travis’s close mindedness to TnT’s opinions, that they were talking bad about Catholic priests touching little boys, not about the quality of anchor cross talk on the local news.

Speaking of the local news, early in today’s show TnT spent some time talking about how every weather person in town got yesterday’s forecast totally wrong. All of the news stations said that yesterday was supposed to be rainy and miserable, yet it turned out to be an absolutely beautiful day. TnT spoke to Mark Lee (“It stinks!”) of Channel 3 about why none of the TV weather guys ever acknowledge when they were wrong the next day. Mark didn’t seem to have an answer but did say that he was, indeed, totally wrong yesterday simply because the system moved a bit further south of us than expected. TnT told Mark to just say that because any explanation is better than none.

Brian read the entertainment report this morning, which lead TnT into a discussion about Creed and the recent accident lead singer Scott Stapp supposedly had. Resident Creed fanatic Lynn Taylor phoned the guys to share the information she has on the subject. She was bummed that she had to cancel her trip to L.A. to see Creed because of the concert’s cancellation. After talking about that, she filled TnT in on some behind-the-scenes rumors she heard regarding the accident itself, possible in-fighting between members of the band, and more. Creed, bla bla, Creed, bla bla, Creed, bla bla.

Towards the end of the show, someone informed Tyler that there were a few people in the office mad at him for sandbagging and being, “the best bowler ever”, after his awesome performance at last night’s bowling outing. Tyler seemed to get a kick out of it and he and Todd talked about how it’s impossible to sandbag while bowling. Later, the guys got a call from the manager of Mockingbird Lanes who wanted the shoes back that Tyler accidentally stole last night. Actually, he just wanted to give Tyler a hard time about it. Tyler said that he would be returning the shoes today.

Well, that’s it for the Wednesday update. Tune in tonight at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay and rejoin TnT tomorrow at 5:30am for the Thursday show. Thanks for watching. Good night. –Corby-
