TnT Show 05-15-2002

Wednesday 5-15-02

Todd and Tyler began their show this morning by talking about the elections yesterday. As they predicted, voter turnout was much lower than expected. In fact, it was the lowest voter turnout in the last 32 years, 17%. The guys then talked about the election coverage local news did last night during prime time TV. Just like the constant invasive weather coverage, the election coverage ruined TV programming. Channel 6 and 7 had results crawls going across the screen and one of them, I believe 6, even had the crawls going on during commercial breaks. From there, the guys moved on into a discussion about whether or not Ft. Calhoun’s power plant could survive a truck bomb and if not, what would happen to Omaha if a terrorist attack occurred there.

A very sick Brian came in and did the news this morning. Before doing so, the guys spent some time talking about the variety of people they know who have become sick lately. James the Giant Peach is ill, Todd’s wife is under the weather, Slave Boy Jeremy’s coughing up frogs, and now BW’s not only got a bleeding ass problem, but he’s sick on top of that. Todd speculated that the four sickies must have shared the same hooker while in Vegas last week and Donnie practically wished Cancer upon our favorite mowing news chick. Consequently, Brian’s newscast was a bit loopy today, yet still very funny. As a testament to the loopiness of the newscast, the guys got off on a strange tangent about Kevin Costner movies and old baseball players while looking for the slang term Costner’s fish character was referred to as in “Waterworld”. I’ve got no idea how that topic came about, but who cares. It was funny.

With the upcoming release of the new Star Wars movie and people across the country already standing in lines to see it, the guys spent some time discussing movies today. To begin with, TnT talked about how they don’t get the whole Star Wars geek thing. Then they discussed the ‘’admittance of geekdom’’ phenomenon and when people admit that they are total geeks about something, that doesn’t necessarily justify their behavior.

As their discussion continued, the guys began to talk about how they don’t understand why people would go to see the same movie in the theater multiple times like many Star Wars fans do. They opened up the phone lines and took quite a few calls throughout the show from people who admitted to multiple theater viewings of movies such as the new ‘’Spiderman’’, ‘’Titanic’’, ‘’Rocky Horror’’, ‘’Lord of the Rings’’, and even some of the coolest movies ever, the Indiana Jones films.

Larry the Cable Guy checked in today with a commentary that fit right into Todd and Tyler’s topic of the morning, Star Wars. If you didn’t know any better, you would have guessed that Larry was actually listening to TnT’s show this morning before calling in because his commentary mirrored TnT’s thoughts on Star Wars geeks exactly. Stay tuned in for more commentaries from Larry as the week progresses.

The guys are going out to an Iowa speedway today to drive some Dodge Vipers around a road course. Travis and ‘’Pos’’ from Channel 3 will also be out there with their cameras to catch the action. TnT received a phone call from the guy who arranged the whole thing today and he told the guys exactly what they could expect this afternoon. As TnT discussed their upcoming race, Tyler said that he would probably have the slowest time of the 4 because he doesn’t want to kill himself driving too fast. The guys phoned ‘’Pos’’ later in the show and gave him a hard time for being such a huge racing neck after they found out he was faxed a map of the road course and has been studying it. We should be able to catch the video of TnT racing this evening on one of the Channel 3 newscasts so make sure to tune in and check it out.

J Medicine Hat phoned the show today to tell TnT that he will be appearing at the Funny Bone all week. He’s doing shows tonight through Monday; the one on Monday is his X-rated show. He talked to the guys for a bit about some toothless ladies he saw at one of his shows on Mothers Day, peppering his conversation with various references to ‘’blow’’, and then mentioned that anyone who makes reservations for tonight or tomorrow night’s shows can get a 2 for 1 deal if they mention they heard it on Z-92. The Hat will be joining TnT in studio on Friday so make sure you don’t miss the Friday edition of the Todd and Tyler show. By the way, you can make your Funny Bone reservations by phoning 493-8036.

Towards the end of the show, TnT brought in resident Star Wars freak Bruce Patrick. They opened up their phone lines and played ‘’Beat The Star Wars Geek’’ with their listeners, giving them the opportunity to try to stump Bruce for tickets to tonight’s sneak preview. The guys took tons of calls from geeks with very technical, geeky questions and amazingly, and quite honestly, frighteningly Bruce Patrick nailed them all! So instead of awarding the tickets to one of the geeks who phoned in for the game, they gave the tickets away to the first caller who picked up the line after they stopped playing. That guy didn’t particularly seem to care about Star Wars, if my memory serves me correctly. You could almost hear a collective Whookie war cry of sorrow from disappointed, ticket-less Star Wars fans across Omaha. I should also mention that all throughout the game, TnT messed up the theme songs, character names, and movie scenarios between Star Trek and Star Wars in a successful attempt to piss off Star Wars fans by screwing up their passion. It was very funny.

The guys concluded this morning’s show with some more discussion of Star Wars freaks, talk about their Viper race this afternoon and BW puked his way through a very entertaining entertainment report.

Well, that’s it for the Wednesday update. On tomorrow’s show, the divorce lawyers will be swinging by for a couple of hours so make sure you’ve all got questions ready to go. Tune in tonight at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay and rejoin the guys tomorrow at 5:30am for the Thursday show. Also keep in mind that you can catch TnT, along with Travis and ‘’Pos’’ racing the Vipers on the 5, 6 or 10pm Channel 3 newscast tonight. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
