TnT Show 06-05-2002

Wednesday 6-5-02

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning by discussing a variety of topics. Among them, Todd mentioned that he went fishing with his kids last night; the whole time he was actively searching for Taliban terrorists who could have been scuba diving in an attack at Two Rivers. Also a big topic early on and throughout the remainder of the show was the news about how Nebraska’s educational television station who would normally be carrying the Husker baseball game for the Super Regionals isn’t going to show it because of a prior contractual agreement to air some small western Nebraska high school all star football game. TnT thought it was a little ridiculous and said that NETV should scrap the football game to cover the baseball game. In fact, they actually seemed disappointed that they wouldn’t be able to see the baseball game on TV. From there, Brian came in and did the news, as Todd and Tyler discussed the stories of the day.

After Brian’s newscast, the guys voiced some concerns over a van that was parked in Brian’s spot just outside the building. Initially, Brian was upset because the van has been in his spot for the last two days, a spot Brian requires because of the mowing equipment he drives to work each day. When TnT heard about it, they were immediately convinced the van was terrorist related and asked Donnie to check into it. Donnie said that the van actually belonged to the Journal Broadcast Group and used to be used by their hip-hop station. TnT didn’t buy that explanation so they brought in their promotions guy James the Giant Peach. He too confirmed that the van was nothing to worry about. TnT didn’t believe him either so they sent Brian out with a cell phone to check on the vehicle. A few minutes later, Brian called the guys from within the van (keys obtained from the Peach) and gave them a detailed report of the contents within, t-shirts, banners, a tent, etcetera. Todd and Tyler’s fears then melted away and Brian moved the van so he could park his mowing truck in his normal spot.

Larry the Cable Guy checked in this morning with a commentary on the new movie, ‘’Sum of All Fears’’. He was upset about changes made from the book to the film adaptation in which Nazi’s now blow up Baltimore instead of Muslim terrorists, as in the book. The commentary itself was actually much funnier than this pitiful explanation of it. Stay tuned for more from Larry later in the week.

Travis came in to do the sports this morning. Before he began, he spent some time talking with TnT about some of the reaction calls and e-mails he received regarding his ‘’For What It’s Worth’’ editorial this week. He told the guys of one caller in particular that was mad not only at Travis, but also at Todd, Tyler and Donnie for slamming the Royals all the time. Everyone then took a second to clarify their statements. None of them slam the Royals, they are just frequently disappointed at the lack of support the people of Omaha give their local team. Everyone wants to see more of a crowd in the stands. The guys then phoned a listener that they spoke to yesterday whose home phone number is just 1 # off of Travis’s voice mail at KM3. They discussed some of the types of calls he has received from viewers who were actually trying to get Trav’s voice mail in response to ‘’For What It’s Worth’’. It was rather funny and Travis really seemed to get a kick out of the idea that people were leaving angry voice mails for him on a stranger’s home machine.

TnT continued talking sports with Travis for a bit and made sure to give him a hard time about something he said on one of last night’s broadcasts. During the anchor cross talk, Travis was asked if he was going to purchase the Lewis/Tyson fight and he responded by saying that he was not because it would cost $60. TnT had a little fun with that, explaining to Travis that A) He’s a sports guy and should watch the fight B) He’ll be able to write off the cost because it relates to his work. Upon further discussion, TnT seemed less and less surprised at Travis’s statement. After all, this is the same sports guy who missed the Super Bowl a few years ago because he had to go to church.

While they were in sports mode, TnT received a phone call from senior Husker baseball player Brandon Eymann. His father has called the show on many occasions and TnT have spoken with Brandon before, too. They spent some time talking about the upcoming Super Regional, how it won’t be televised, and the team’s overall expectations as they work their way to the CWS. They also talked a little bit about some of the degrees his teammates are working towards; most of which TnT didn’t think were all that financially sound. Before letting Brandon go, they wished him and the team luck.

Patrick Spring and Sean Gnandt from the Funny Bone swung by the studio this morning and spent a couple of hours hanging out with TnT. During their visit, the guys gave Sean a hard time about his record-spinning hobby. Sean took a moment to explain exactly what it is he does and why he does it, detailing ‘’turntableism’’ and scratch theory in general, before explaining the ‘’seamless flow of music’’ concept. Changing the subject, Sean then told TnT a story about a strip club he visited before he moved to Omaha. At that strip club with his friends, Sean, sick at the time, earned the name ‘’Snot Tit’’ after a breast-to-snotty-nose lap dance incident with a hot, black stripper.

Brian came in to do the entertainment report later in the show and much like yesterday’s e-news, the report this morning was just goofy as hell (in a funny, loopy after a long morning way). The guys started off by talking about the 6 degrees of separation theory and tested it out by taking a few phone calls. They talked about some bad comic book movies and took a call from a comic geek who shared some Fantastic Four details. They then got into a discussion about human humping dolphins, which led into a series of bad sea life related puns. That, in turn, led TnT into playing a song called, ‘’Wet Dreams’’ by Kip Addotta, which was full of the same types of bad puns.

On Saturday night, you can join Todd and Tyler at the Ice House on Maple Street as they host a Lewis Vs. Tyson Pay-Per-View event from 9pm to 11pm. For just $10, or $12 the day of, you can get into the Ice House to see the fight on one of their 64 TVs. To secure your spot for the event, phone 934-BEER. It should be a good time and everyone is anxiously anticipating the possible shenanigans during the bout so make sure to stop on out and see it with Todd and Tyler.

Tonight is another Z-92 night at the Funny Bone with Todd and Tyler and Patrick Spring. The show begins at 8pm, new summer time hours, and it’s only $1 to get in. Call the Bone Phone at 493-8036 for reservations. You won’t be disappointed and there’s a chance Todd and Tyler’ll whack you upside the head with a meat snack! Well worth a dollar, I’d say.

Well, that’s it for the Wednesday update. Head out to the Funny Bone tonight, tune into Z-92 at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay of this morning’s show and rejoin Todd and Tyler tomorrow at 5:30am for the Thursday edition of their show. I believe they’re going to send Slave Boy Jeremy out to Lake Cunningham tomorrow with the ‘’Free Balls and Shaft’’ sign. Make sure to tune in early. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
