TnT Show 06-17-2002

Monday 6-17-02

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning by discussing their weekends. Todd went camping while Tyler attended some CWS games. As you may have heard, the Huskers lost two in a row over the weekend in the College World Series and were sent home. Although they felt bad for the Husker baseball players, TnT were quite pleased that Husker fans would no longer be infecting the CWS atmosphere and spent a great deal of time this morning talking about 4 and out Van Horn and the Husker loss. They opened up the phone lines early and took calls from people who had stories to share about Husker fan’s behavior at and during the games.

Throughout the rest of today’s show, TnT continued talking about the Husker loss, taking phone calls here and there from their listeners. Because of whom they lost to, the Gamecocks, references to the ‘’cocks’’ were tossed about all morning long. It was very funny and TnT said that hopefully the Gamecocks would remain in the tournament throughout the week so they can continue the ‘’cock’’ talk.

Also early today, TnT mentioned that they heard the USA soccer team beat Mexico in a World Cup match. Even though they really have no interest in soccer, when they saw their friend Jose from the Spanish-speaking station walk by the hall, the guys shouted ‘’Goaaaaaal!’’ and brought him into the studio. Jose was a bit bummed that the United States defeated his homeland in the match overnight but wasn’t entirely surprised. In fact, he said that Mexico has been the US’s bitch in soccer, having lost 7 of their last 10 matches. He also said that about 10 million Mexicans would be calling in sick today, which led TnT to joke about how today no one’s roof would be fixed and no bacon would get cut.

Brian came in and did the news today. During his report, Tyler mentioned that he ran into a lady bartending on Friday night that was celebrating her early 30-something birthday. She told Tyler that she once played strip poker with Travis when he was in seventh grade. When Travis arrived, TnT asked him about it but Trav claimed not to be able to remember the incident. He kept saying that if he had a last name, maybe he could put a face to the woman and the memory might resurface but the only information Tyler got on her was her age and the first name Tracy. Travis was, however, quite proud of himself because based on the woman’s age, she would have had to be in 9th grade when Travis was in 7th. Even though he couldn’t remember the girl, Trav was happy thinking he was Mack Daddy enough to get an older woman to play strip poker with him.

Speaking of Travis, TnT found it a bit amusing that he’s going to be stuck down in the RV at the CWS for another week even though the Huskers are out of the tournament. It was at that point when talking about how much longer Trav would be cooped up in the RV that Travis took a second to ask the listening audience for a little help. Even though he claims he didn’t partake in any sitting style bathroom activity in the RV down at the Johnny, his two KM3 cohorts have pooped up a storm and nearly flooded the RV’s toilet with floaters. Trav did a little on-air begging and asked if there might be a sanitation company willing to come and suck the tank dry. I’m sure we’ll here tomorrow whether or not he got any takers.

Todd and Tyler announced the long awaited Z Bash lineup for the 2002 concert this morning. The Bash is going to take place at Levi Carter Park on Sunday, August 18th. It will be kicked off by a local band, which will be determined by a Battle of the Bands at the Anchor in mid July. From there, Jack Russell, the voice of Great White will take the stage, followed by the boys from Quiet Riot, then Eddy Money, Cheap Trick and the final band of the day will be Journey! As the guys announced each band, they played a variety of songs from each artist, singing along with them to the point in which they all scratched up their voices pretty good.

Tickets go on sale Saturday morning at 9am and can be obtained from any Burger King location in Omaha and Council Bluffs. The ticket price on Saturday is going to be $19.50. If you purchase a Value Meal, you can get each ticket for only $17.50. After Saturday, the ticket prices will be bumped up a little bit. Children 12 and under accompanied by an adult with paid admission will get in free.

TnT spoke to Rick Nielsen from Cheap Trick while they were announcing the Z Bash lineup for this year. The gang spent some time talking about the success of Cheap Trick and what their future plans are. Rick said that the band has just wrapped up recording a new CD that will be released this fall. They’re on tour now hitting a variety of venues with other artists like Aerosmith, as well as doing shows on their own. When TnT mentioned that the last time they spoke to Rick he was a bit more crabby than he appeared this morning, Rick said that he has quit drinking and that might be a factor. So, for a while, they talked about hiss drinking days. Rick sounded happy to be coming back to Omaha for the Z Bash and everyone in the studio seemed very excited about seeing Cheap Trick in town again.

After the Nielsen interview, TnT continued their Z-bash announcement. Once completed, they opened up the phone lines and took reaction calls from their audience. There seemed to be quite a bit of excitement coming from the phones today, many people calling in to get the details of the event again.

Later in the show, Brian returned with an entertainment report. During that time, Tyler’s fiancée Becky and his dad stopped by the studio to say hi. Also, since they were discussing the Z Bash already and with the change to allow 12-year-olds and younger into this year’s concert for free, the guys thought it would be fun to revisit a little Z Bash history. They went to the archives and found the phone call from the angry 11-year-old girl, Holly. You may recall that she phoned TnT a few years ago to complain that she wasn’t going to be able to get into the Z Bash for free that year. Tyler told her that her father wasn’t really her father and Todd said she’d grow up to be a bitchy 30-year-old if she kept on the same pace. Anyway, the guys replayed her call this morning and said that Holly would now be able to get in for free again. Then, humorously, they realized that the young lady was now older than the 12-year-old cutoff age and had a good laugh knowing that she would have to pay to get into the concert this year anyway.

Before wrapping up the entertainment news and bringing their show to a close, the guys took a phone call from Todd’s fishing buddy in Anchorage, Alaska. His friend wanted to tell Todd about how some guys just caught 163 pike in the same location that Todd will be fishing in when he comes up for a visit in August. Todd seemed quite excited and went into fishing talk mode with his buddy. Tyler, on the other hand, said something to the effect of, ‘’Give me a call and tell me all about it when I care.’’

Well that’s it for the big Monday update. Tune in tonight at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay and rejoin TnT tomorrow morning at 5:30am for their Tuesday show. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
