TnT Show 07-09-2002

Tuesday 7-9-02

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning by discussing a variety of topics ranging from the heat to badgers and barges. From there they talked about the birth of James the Giant Peach’s new baby daughter, Sophie. Congratulations Peach! Also early in the show, TnT wrapped up their discussion of VH1’s top 100 one-hit wonders. As you may recall, yesterday the guys spent a great deal of time discussing 100 through 20, leaving the top 20 for this morning. TnT went though the remaining songs this morning, playing clips of each and talking about the worthiness of each tune to be on such a list.

Before Brian’s first news segment, Tyler mentioned that he’s getting his braces removed today. He sounded a bit worried about the pain he might endure and decided to take a couple phone calls from listeners who have already experienced what he would be going through. Several callers checked in with details of their braces removal procedures but they offered conflicting information about the amount of pain involved. Someone said it was terribly painful while others said it wasn’t that bad. Tyler didn’t seem pleased at the conflicting reports because they didn’t seem to alleviate his worry.

Mathew Higgins and Kelly Shattuck from the law firm of Cohen, Vacanti, Higgins, and Shattuck stopped by this morning and spent a couple of hours with Todd and Tyler after BW concluded his morning newscast. The guys opened up their phone lines and took calls from their listeners who had a variety of questions for the lawyers. There were quite a few of the standard custody and child support calls today but there was an interesting trend related to children. Several of the callers’ questions today centered on women with large amounts of children fathered by large amounts of different men. In fact, after taking some phone calls specifically on that topic, one lady discussed in particular seemed to have set some kind of record. She had fathered 6 children to 6 different dads.

Also during their visit, one of the lawyers told TnT about seeing a couple of gay men leaving the woods at Lake Cunningham. They then spent some time talking about the video of the California police officer that punched the handcuffed 16-year-old kid; a video making it’s way around the television stations as we speak. The gang also had an interesting discussion on ball pinching.

The fine lawyers from Cohen, Vacanti, Higgins, and Shattuck will be joining TnT in studio again in a couple of weeks. If you’d like to get in contact with them before then, please feel free to give them a call at 345-7600 or visit them on the web at http://www.fathersrightslaw.com.

Travis came in with a sports report this morning, which also included a repeat of his ‘’For What It’s Worth’’ commentary from last night’s 10pm Channel 3 newscast. This week Travis covered how the Huskers are getting 6-1 odds to win this year in Vegas; something everyone seemed to think was out of the question. He also commented on the former Creighton coach who’s headed to Chicago to work with the Cubs. Travis then wrapped up with a little rant in how the dead baseball player Ted Williams’ family should not be trying to cryogenically freeze the man in order to sell his DNA. If you’d like to comment, positively or negatively, on any of these stories, you can e-mail Trav at travis@km3.com or leave him a voice mail at 593-2706.

Later in the show, Brian came in with an entertainment report. Before he began, TnT spent some time talking about the World Herald article centering on their comedian friend Sean Gnandt. According to the article, Sean has decided to move to New York City in 2003; his final show at the Funny Bone will take place this New Year’s Eve. TnT found it rather funny that Sean plans to leave nearly 6 months from now and said that if he’s going to go, he should just go now, not announce it in the paper 6 months prior. They checked in on Sean’s cell phone and left him a voice mail or two but were unable to get him on the air this morning. I’m sure they’ll talk to him about his plans to leave Omaha the next time he comes in studio so stay tuned and duck to the nub.

After all the talk of Sean Gnandt concluded, the guys got into the entertainment report. During today’s E-news, Brian brought back the obscure dead guy of the day segment by telling us about the passing of an old Disney animator who was famous for redesigning Mickey Mouse years ago. TnT didn’t seem to think that this particular dead guy was worthy of Brian bringing the obscure dead guy of the day bit back into play and scolded him for it. Following that, Brian read yet another Nebraska Sex Offender Registry list, which was full of people humping on kids again.

As Brian wrapped up the E-news, he mentioned that today is his mother’s birthday. TnT phoned Brian’s mom to wish her well and she seemed pleased to hear from them, although when Ray Charles popped in and attempted to guess her age, she seemed slightly less than thrilled. Before letting her go though, Tyler discussed how he found out that his fiancé’s mom and Brian’s mom were in the same grade and school, a discovery only recently made. Although not officially, the discovery has helped Tyler to feel as though he now has a cousin in Brian, something TnT have pointed out that everyone else in Omaha already seems to have; tons of cousins.

Before the end of the show, the guys took a minute or two to phone Tyler’s orthodontist. As mentioned earlier in the show, Tyler gets his braces off today and he was worried about how badly it would hurt. Obviously the conflicting reports from the early morning callers only helped to accelerate his jitters about the procedure. When Tyler’s Ortho got on the phone, he was flat out funny. Tyler asked how badly the braces removal would be and the doctor replied, ‘’Ever have your ears torn off your face?’’ After a short pause, filled nicely by what sounded like a gasp from Tyler, the Dr. continued, ‘’It feels nothing like that.’’ The orthodontist explained exactly what he would be doing to Tyler’s mouth and did his best to point out that Tyler shouldn’t feel any pain. So from this point on, the ‘’Damn braces’’ excuse isn’t going to work for Tyler when he makes a verbal boo boo, although for some reason I can picture it remaining a part of the Todd and Tyler show lingo forever.

Well, that’s it for the Tuesday update. Tune in tonight at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay of this morning’s show and make sure you rejoin TnT tomorrow at 5:30am for the Wednesday edition of the Todd and Tyler show. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
