TnT Show 07-11-2002

Thursday 7-11-02

A few things to clear up before we begin:

  • Todd has never smoked pot.
  • Todd has never had a drink in his life.
  • Todd does lots of volunteer work.
  • Todd attends Sunday school and church regularly as well as teaching CCD on Wednesday nights.
  • Todd uses a brick of incense to light fireworks.

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning by discussing a variety of things. Some of the topics mentioned were last night’s ESPY award show, the great Omaha Vs. Lincoln discussion, Elkhorn being swallowed up by Omaha, the progress of the Arena, Qwest’s financial troubles, and further accounting scandals brewing in the Bush administration.

Also early in the show, TnT spoke to James the Giant Peach. His new baby was brought home from the hospital yesterday. Beforehand, there was a little worry about a murmur in the newborn but according to the doctors, it’s nothing to worry about and the problem is actually pretty common. Peach seemed pretty chipper about having his wife and child home again, so happy that he forgot he was on the radio and dropped the S-bomb. It was quite funny.

Brian came in with his early morning newscast. A couple of the stories he read over, one on Evolution Vs. Creationism and the other on 8-year-olds drinking their mother’s breast milk from the tap, spawned lengthy discussions that ate up a good portion of an hour. The guys discussed Evolution Vs. Creationism and wondered whether or not Catholic high schools teach Evolution. They got a few calls and it turns out that they do. On the breast milk story, the guys spent a great deal of time talking about breast milk, breast pumps, the age in which one should wean a child off of the boob and more. Everyone seemed to agree that 8 is way too old to be breastfeeding and everyone figured there was some strange sexual stuff going on in that household. During that discussion Travis mentioned that his wife wants to become a Lactation Consultant so for a while, the gang discussed Lactation Consultant Theory. They also took quite a few phone calls from listeners who wanted to comment on the news story and talk about breastfeeding.

Wex joined the guys in studio this morning to discuss his recent trip to see the MLB All Star game. He took his son to the event and told TnT about all of the famous people they saw. From there, they discussed the debacle that was the tie game, the crowd’s reaction to it, and what could have been done better to avoid the trouble in the first place. Everyone seemed to agree that a tie in baseball is unacceptable and that the commissioner has absolutely no way to defend his decision or to justify calling the game when tied. Wex also discussed his trip home, which sparked a conversation about how horrible Iowa is to drive across.

Slave Boy Jeremy checked in this morning with a story about a friend of his. He said that his friend is supposed to be getting married in about a month but has just decided to call off the wedding. Everyone speculated that he’s just got cold feet but as they discussed the situation, it sounded more like the guy is just a snake and doesn’t want to stop having sex with people other than his soon-to-be bride.

On a related note, there was an article in the paper about reasons to and not to call off a wedding. TnT spent some time going over various points in the article and discussing each before they opened up the phone lines. Listeners began to check in with their own stories similar to the one Jeremy had told about his friend. Most of the stories involved cheating of some form as well as a little revenge. In one of the more memorable tales today, a man found out his friend had slept with his fiancé and got her pregnant. She denied it up until about a week before the wedding. The man, obviously pissed, went through with the entire wedding and afterwards when he was to sign the marriage papers, he refused, set down his ring on top of the license and then walked out of the room. Talk about harsh! Of course, if his lady weren’t banging his buddy the whole thing would have never happened like that.

Several times this week the guys have mentioned wanting to get in touch with Rob McCartney of Channel 7. On Sunday night’s news, Todd saw a 10-year-old girl peak her head into view of the camera in the ‘’working newsroom’’ open set thing 7’s got going on over there. Todd has been curious to find out whether he actually saw the young kid or if an aneurysm in his brain might have kicked in momentarily causing him to see young girls on his TV screen. Rob confirmed that someone in the office had indeed brought in their kids that day and one of them had snuck some face time in the background. As they discussed that Bill Ramby from Channel 7 phoned in too. The gang talked about hairstyles on the female anchors before moving into a discussion about beards, goatees, ponytails, and gray pubic hairs.

Stephano from the Funny Bone also joined the show this morning. He’s performing all weekend opening up for J Medicine Hat. Stephano joined in on the topics of the day and seemed to fit in nicely with the flow of the show. He may be returning to the TnT studio next Thursday as well if he works things out to where he can stay an additional week in Omaha. Call the Bone Phone at 493-8036 for reservations to catch him and Medicine Hat this weekend.

The band Inside Out arrived in the last hour of this morning’s show and performed a couple of tunes for TnT. They’ll be appearing at the Anchor Inn on Saturday in the Battle of the Bands along with Head Space, the Noise Next Door and Down To Here. You can also catch them next weekend at the Springfield bar, R & R. Make sure to head out to the Anchor Inn this weekend for the Battle of the Bands and cast your vote to help determine who will open up this year’s Z-Bash 2002! By the way, you can check out their web site here, http://www.geocities.com/insideoutrockin/.

Well, that’s it for the update today. Tune in tonight at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay of this morning’s show and rejoin TnT tomorrow at 5:30am for the Friday version of their program. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
