TnT Show 07-23-2002

Tuesday 7-23-02

Todd and Tyler began their show this morning by reading a piece of hate e-mail from a listener who detests Donnie. The e-mailer practically begged TnT not to let Donnie on the air anymore and then told Brian that if he were to reach over and pop Donnie during the news, she would have a little something for Brian in her skirt. She attached a photo of herself and everyone agreed that the e-mailer was indeed hot, but Brian seemed too mopy to care.

Following that, Todd and Tyler made an announcement about the Thrillard in Millard. The boxing event was supposed to take place on Saturday night but after a fax from the Nebraska Boxing Commissioner and a few hours of phone calls Peach had with him, the station effectively pulled the plug on the event. Evidentially, things were working out just fine for the boxing match to take place until a fax came in giving additional rules and regulations, which would have made things nearly impossible to pull off.

The commissioner wouldn’t let Machine Head fight Midget Brian because it’s a guy/girl match and they wouldn’t allow Donnie to pummel the Ethiopian Brain because of their difference in weight. Secondly, according to their understanding, at any moment the commissioner could pull the plug on the event even after it began if someone was slightly late to weigh-in time, if anyone had consumed a beer before their fight, or for any number of other nitpicky reasons. TnT speculated that just such a thing would probably happen if there was indeed someone out to make them look like fools. Letting a crowd build, allowing one or two fights, and then shutting down the event would do just that.

As you can imagine, Todd and Tyler were royally pissed off. They pointed out that on any given night, you could go to an Omaha bar and pay a $4 cover charge to see guys get in a ring and fight each other and those events aren’t ever shut down. They felt that someone was ‘’trying to put a feather in their hats’’ by stopping the Todd and Tyler event and claimed that the rules were being ‘’selectively enforced.’’

Peach came in on and spent some time discussing the postponement of the Thrillard in Millard with Todd and Tyler, too. He further explained the reasons for the postponement and then talked to TnT about future possibilities for the event. Everyone seemed to agree that the should move the Thrillard in Millard to Iowa, where they wouldn’t have to deal with the Nebraska Boxing Commission, and then brainstormed ideas on where they could move everything to.

The guys made sure to thank Tim at McCormick’s for having the nads to let them hold the event there in the first place and said that he was great throughout the ordeal. Perhaps TnT will have some sort of alternate event at McCormick’s in the future.

Throughout the remainder of the show, the guys continued discussing the situation, speaking with Midget Brian about it later, taking phone calls, and stressing their disappointment with the Nebraska Boxing Commissioner. I’m sure what we heard during this morning’s show will not be the last of it so tune in tomorrow for further developments on the story.

As we heard yesterday, Todd’s having a problem with one of his ears. A huge quantity of waxy buildup has run amuck in his canal causing him to have limited hearing on the right side. Yesterday a caller named Tammy checked in and said she could fix Todd up by doing some sort of holistic healing using a funnel and a candle. She arrived in the studio this morning during the first few segments of the show and began to work. Todd rested his head down and pulled the microphone close as Tammy put a funnel in his ear and did something with a lit candle. For several minutes, Todd participated in the show while a portion of his head was on fire. After a few minutes, earwax began to fountain out of his melon, effectively grossing out Tyler. Todd thanked Tammy for releasing some of the pressure in his head but said that he felt she didn’t get it all and he would have to have another treatment. By the way, if you’d like information on the whole candle in the ear thing, you can phone Ancient Wisdom at 712-323-5600 in Council Bluffs. She also gave a web address but it doesn’t work. Perhaps I wrote it down wrong.

Travis came in with a sports report this morning. He concluded by reading his ‘’For What It’s Worth’’ that aired on Channel 3’s 10pm newscast last night. The topics he covered this morning included how the Husker baseball team cancelled next season’s game against Arkansas because they didn’t want the kids to have to play against their old coach, discussion of what the actual national pastime is (football?), and then went on to suck up to Tiger Woods for having a winning attitude. If you would like to comment, you can e-mail Trav at travis@km3.com or leave him a voice mail by calling 593-2706.

TnT spoke to Craig Pillegian from TBS this morning. He’s the executive co-producer of a new show called, ‘’Worst Case Scenario’’ that has been airing recently. The guys discussed the concept for the program, which basically puts people in life-threatening situations and then explains how you can survive. They went on to talk about where they get the ideas, how volunteers get on the show, the safety of those who actually take part in each scenario, and then Craig gave TnT some examples of what they can expect to see in the future. The show sounds pretty cool and Craig was a lot of fun while talking to Todd and Tyler. You can catch a new episode of ‘’Worst Case Scenario’’ tomorrow night on TBS.

Towards the end of the show, Brian read his entertainment report. As TnT wrapped up their program, they brought in Jose from the Spanish speaking station down the hall. They asked him to tell them about something that recently happened to him while he was doing a remote for the Spanish station at the 36th & L Street Hy-Vee. Jose said that he was set up in front of the grocery store with the station’s van, playing music and talking to people. Adjacent to him was a group of young female softball players and their parents/coaches who were asking for donations from the patrons of the store so the team could afford some sort of trip.

Some of the parents/coaches didn’t like the music that was coming from the van and told Jose to turn it down. Jose said that he wouldn’t turn it down because he was there as part of a live remote Hy-Vee asked him to do and because it was a live remote, he does what every radio station would do; play music and meet the station fans. Well, the parents/coaches got in a huff and threatened to phone the police and Jose said he could hear some under-the-breath racial slurs being tossed at him by the parents/coaches.

Eventually Jose wrapped up the live broadcast from the Hy-Vee because his time was up and when he shut off the music and prepared to leave, the parents/coaches and kids clapped and cheered his departure.

Todd and Tyler were floored at the blatant racism from the group of young softball players and their parents/coaches. Jose, on the other hand, said that the situation is something that happens frequently and he’s become somewhat used to it. TnT then apologized to him for the racial actions of their white brothers and switched so a discussion about the recent lack of shootings at soccer games.

Well, that’s it for the Tuesday update. Tune in tonight at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay of this morning’s show and make sure to rejoin TnT tomorrow at 5:30am for the Wednesday edition. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
