TnT Show 07-29-2002

Monday 7-29-02

Todd and Tyler started off their show by discussing their visit with Michael Winslow last Friday. TnT mentioned that even though his comedy sucks and the last hour of Friday’s show was spent talking over pointless sound effects from Winslow, he’s an all around nice guy in person. From there, the guys talked about a few items in the news, such as the miners in Pennsylvania who were rescued. Then Tyler mentioned that he watched some bass fisherman award show over the weekend. Yes, Tyler watched fishing on TV. Anyway, he joked about a comment made referencing how one fisherman’s win of some competition was the equivalent to Tiger Woods shooting a 59. That discussion spawned lengthy banter about the stupid comparison, 18 pound bass, and fishing in general.

Both Todd and Tyler saw the new Austin Powers movie over the weekend and liked it. The guys said that they would hold off on talking too much about the film until they return from vacation after they’re off all next week. That way, more listeners can get the chance to catch the movie. TnT did, however, give a couple of tiny tidbits from the film. Evidentially, there are two Asian twins in the movie named Fook Yu and Fook Me. Consequently, throughout the remainder of this morning’s show, ‘’Fook Yu’’ and ‘’Fook Me’’ references were dropped all over the place. It was hilarious. TnT also seemed to enjoy the name of Gwenith Paltrow's character, Dixy Normous and said that if they had met their newest intern, Big Country, last week, she’d definitely have gotten the Dixy Normous nickname. Instead, they plan to save it for their next female intern.

Speaking of the Austin Powers movie, Tyler told a hilarious story about something that occurred when he went to the theater to see the movie. There was a Corky sitting up the way from him a little bit who had a really strange laugh. There’s no way for me to translate the laugh to words so I suggest you catch the 3rd Shift Replay tonight to get an idea of what it sounded like. Anyway, not only did the Corky laugh strangely but also Tyler said that there was one point in the movie in which someone asks Austin what he is going to do. During the brief pause in the dialogue, the Corky in Tyler’s audience shouted, ‘’Nothin!’’ (Imagine Donnie as Corky screaming this and you’ll get an idea of what the next few minutes of the show this morning was).

Trisha Meuret from Channel 7 came in and did the news and e-news reports for Brian, who was away in KC for a concert and didn’t make it back in time. Before she started the newscast, TnT spent some time playing a little catch-up with Trisha. Since they last saw her, she’s changed her hairstyle. Originally, TnT thought she had gotten a perm to curl up her head but Trish told them that her hair is naturally curly like that. From there, they spent some time covering Trisha’s love’em and leave’em life of romance and found out that the infamous Rolando is gonzo.

Later in the show, Trisha spent some time talking about a trip to London she is about to leave on. She’s going there with her parents and two younger brothers to celebrate their parent’s wedding anniversary. As the conversation of the trip continued, TnT took phone calls from some listeners who have made the flight from the States to the UK and in order to give Trisha an idea of the length of time she’ll be on the flight.

Larry the Cable Guy checked in this morning and talked a little fishing with the guys. He then went into his commentary about how the actor who played George Jefferson went bankrupt. TnT seemed thoroughly disappointed in the commentary, joking about how George Jefferson actually went bankrupt back in October of last year. Donnie then went on to say that maybe next time Larry might cover how Janet Reno looks like a man or how Rosie O’Donnell is fat. Stay tuned for more from Larry in the near future.

Since Brian wasn’t with the guys, they read an e-mail sent to them a while back from a listener who thinks Brian should just get over his divorce and move on. TnT saved the e-mail because had they read it while Brian was with them, he would have just gotten all pissed off at them. So, because Brian wasn’t in studio today, TnT had the perfect opportunity to share the e-mail with the audience.

As they read over the e-mail about Brian, TnT seemed to agree with many of the points the e-mailer made; Brian should stop moping around and move on. They then spent some time talking about experiences in their own relationships and the broken hearts they’ve all suffered in the past. They also talked about another point from the e-mail that they agreed with, how women never spontaneously divorce their men. They’ve always got a plan in the works ahead of time. Not a lot of calls came in on the subject, either that or Donnie screened them all out because they weren’t that interesting. But perhaps TnT will bring up the e-mail again with Brian when he returns tomorrow.

Colleen from the Funny Bone phoned Todd and Tyler this morning and asked them for a little bit of help. Comedian Dave Attell who’s got his own show on Comedy Central called, ‘’Insomniac’’ may be coming to the Funny Bone in the near future. The producers of his television show would like to know what strange things there might be for Dave to do and film after hours here in Omaha. If something good is suggested, then Dave might make it to Omaha. So Colleen asked TnT and their listeners to help her come up with some ideas. Todd and Tyler tossed around a few and took a call or two from listeners but for the most part, TnT concluded that there just isn’t much to do once the bars close in Omaha. I’m sure the discussion will come up again in the near future so if you can come up with any cool ideas that will bring Dave Attell and his camera crew to Omaha and the Funny Bone, fire off an e-mail to TnT.

Travis came in with the sports report today. Before he began, Trisha shared a story that she heard from a pizza delivery guy, the roommate of a man she’s currently ‘’hanging out with.’’ The pizza delivery guy told her that Travis is famous among the pizza delivery guy community for not tipping when he places an order. For that reason, some of the pizza guys have taken it upon themselves to do some nasty stuff to Trav’s pizzas before delivering them, such as spitting on the cheese.

After she told the story, Travis came into the studio and was understandably mad. To begin with, Travis claims that he always tips a buck or two to the pizza delivery people, he just doesn’t think he should be expected to tip ‘’50%’’ for a $15 pizza. Secondly, he seemed mad at the fact that the guy Trisha met, who doesn’t even know Trav personally, could hate him that much. Trav went on to say that people should keep in mind that they’re not only spitting on his pizza, but the pizza his wife and small children are eating too. Later, Travis tried to get Trisha to give up who the spitting delivery guy was so he could do something about it. When she wouldn’t reveal the name, Travis got even more upset, once again, understandably.

The gang spent quite a bit of time this morning discussing the Pope. Due to his recent visit to Canada, he’s been all over the TV looking like a wobbly-headed rag doll. Travis spent much of the weekend watching Pope TV and Trisha also saw some of the coverage. TnT expressed their opinions that Catholics should just bury the Pope in the yard and get a new one, joking later about a giddy lady they saw on TV who said the Pope looked ‘’energetic.’’ Following that, they all discussed the possibility of a black Pope being nominated to the position.

Eventually Travis got around to doing his sports report. Before wrapping it up, he and TnT spent some time discussing possible ideas for his ‘’For What It’s Worth’’ that will air tonight on the 10pm KM3 newscast. There were several items tossed around such as Husker fan’s opinions on this year’s QB slot and how Lance Armstrong can ride a bicycle really fast. Tune in tonight to see what Travis chooses to cover.

Later in the show, Trisha returned to the news desk and delivered an entertainment report. After she concluded, the guys talked about a plethora of topics to close their show. Donnie shared a story about going to the Dodge family reunion in which he was seated next to a French-speaking relative. As you might imagine, Donnie hated him because the guy wasn’t comfortable speaking English except occasionally to his own wife. There was a little more talk about fishing from Todd, who said that the croppy were angrily striking over the weekend. And before TnT ended their show, they took some phone calls from listeners who had suggestions for their ‘’Best Of’’ shows that will air next week when TnT are out of town.

Well, that’s the Monday update. Tune in tonight at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay of this morning’s program and make sure to rejoin TnT tomorrow at 5:30am for the Tuesday show. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
