TnT Show 08-15-2002

Thursday 8-15-02

Todd and Tyler began their show this morning by informing their audience of a crime. The dark blue Z28 Camero Tyler has been driving from Tim O’Neill Auto & Motorsports World was stolen from his driveway last night sometime between 11pm and 4am this morning. Tyler described how he took the trash out before going to work this morning and didn’t notice the car was gone until he was walking back up his driveway. After pondering whether or not he might have misplaced the car somehow, he concluded that it was stolen and drove his own vehicle in to work.

He didn’t report that his car was stolen until the guys actually got on the air this morning. TnT tried to figure out exactly how they should go about reporting the crime and after a caller suggested that they should just call 911, they did. Hilariously, TnT had to put the 911 operator on hold while Tyler wrote down his home address for Donnie to give him. Later, the operator called the guys back and told them that there were some reports of the stolen car being involved in another attempted car theft last night, which led everyone to believe the car was still in town and had not been chopped up yet.

Black Tony had joined the guys by this point in the show and everyone joked around how it may have been Tony that took Tyler’s car. After all, Tony had stopped by Tyler’s house out of the blue a few days prior. He could have been scoping the place out. Tony stuck around for a while and joined in on the topics of the day.

The phone lines were opened and lots of calls began to pour in. Some of the callers piled on Tyler pretty heavily, blaming him for the car being stolen. It was rather funny to hear Tyler, the victim, defending himself and stating that he didn’t do anything wrong, the thieves did. Also during this segment of the show, the guys started receiving ‘’I’ve spotted your car’’ phone calls from the listeners. This led the first two hours of the show to be deemed the Todd and Tyler On Star System, as listeners tried to help TnT pinpoint exactly where the thugs were.

Several of the callers had some vivid details of the car’s location. One such call came from a gas station attendant off of 108th & Fort Street who said the car had just filled up with $5 worth of gas and drove off without paying for it. She described two white kids as the people who had the car. After some thought, TnT had Donnie tell the morning person over at their teeny bopper station to put out an APB on the air, figuring that the thieves, two ‘’wannabe white boys’’ would most likely be listening to thumpa-thumpa-thumpa music and not their show.

Spottings continued to come in from the listeners and at one point, the car was said to be right at 132nd and Maple Street. James the Giant Peach, on his way to work at the time, happened to be right at the intersection. Although he didn’t see the car, he drove around the area looking for it for a while.

As time moved on, TnT began to get a bit pissed that the police officer who was coming to make the report hadn’t shown up yet. ‘’Where are the god damned cops?!’’ Tyler yelled at one point. It actually took right around an hour and a half for the officer to arrive, all the while the listeners had continued to call in with the vehicle’s location. When the officer did arrive, he made his report and left.

TnT phoned Chad from Tim O’Neill to tell him about the theft. Chad was listening to the show so he was already aware of the situation. He said that he wasn’t upset at Tyler for the car getting stolen and seemed surprisingly calmly collected for a guy that had just had a $30,000 automobile stolen from him.

When Travis arrived, he had a surprise with him for TnT, Sara Simmons from KM3. Todd and Tyler have mentioned in the past that they think Sara’s a hottie and would like to get her on the show with them. Trav was able to come through for’em and brought her along this morning. TnT spent some time getting to know her by asking questions about where she went to school and her past experiences in television. For the remainder of the show, Sara joined in on the topics of the day and seemed happy that she was able to ‘’survive’’ her first encounter with Todd and Tyler.

Later in the show, Travis returned to the studio with a sports report. During the sports report, Travis read over the starting lineup of this year’s Golden Rods, as creatively created by Donnie. There were some hilarious names on the roster, which will most likely end up on the web site soon. The guys also mentioned that thanks to a Playstation 2 football game of Donnie’s, they are going to be able to put the player’s names on the backs of the video game characters and hopefully will have a highlight film ready to show of each week’s Golden Rods football game at their Monday Night Football appearances this season.

As the show progressed, the car theft continued to be the main topic of interest. The guys took more calls from listeners who have had their vehicles stolen and the gang also spent some time discussing the feeling of being violated. There were continuous jokes about how Tyler, living in a very nice West Omaha neighborhood, should move to Benson where there’s less crime. Later, TnT’s boss Wex came in studio to talk about the theft. Initially he seemed to blame Tyler for the situation, jokingly though, which led the guys into a lengthy discussion about the tendency to blame a victim.

Jim Short from the Funny Bone came in to hang out with Todd and Tyler for a bit today. He’s originally from Australia but moved to the states back in ’79 as part of the big ‘’Give us your funny guys and we’ll let you advertise your beer on our TV stations’’ tradeoff many of you are sure to recall. He talked about his accent and how he hasn’t lost it, avoiding meshing his Australian accent with a Texas twang when he first arrived in this country, discussed how Dennis Leary is well known among the comedy circuit as being a joke thief, and joined in on many of the other topics of the morning. He was quite funny and seemed to enjoy his time on the TnT show. You can catch him along with Lewis Black at the Funny Bone this weekend. Call the Bone Phone at 493-8036 for reservations.

TnT wrapped up their show this morning with Brian’s e-news. Scattered in between the e-news stories, Todd and Tyler took more car theft phone calls from the listeners, talked with the comedian Jim Short, and further discussed the theft of Tyler’s Z28 Camero.

That’s it for the Thursday update. Tune in tonight at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay of this morning’s show and make sure to rejoin Todd and Tyler tomorrow at 5:30am for the Friday edition of their program. Lewis Black from the Funny Bone will be joining the guys and I’m sure we’ll get an update on Tyler’s stolen car as well. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
