Monday 9-23-02

Todd and Tyler began their show this morning by playing a Warren Zevon tune, which led into some depressing talk about his terminal cancer. The guys then spent a few moments pointing out that due to Tyler’s wedding, they are having a short week, concluding on Wednesday at about 9am. Tyler made sure to mention that the depressing talk of Zevon’s cancer in no way related to the talk of his wedding. From there, Donnie came in and ranted about some garbage pickup problems he’s having and Joe from Blue House phoned in with a funny story about how he called 9-11 and busted some innocent people who happened to be doing one of those Global Positioning Satellite scavenger hunt games.

Also early on, the guys discussed last night’s Jim Breuer show at the Funny Bone, which they couldn’t recommend enough. Travis came out to the comedy club to celebrate his birthday and he brought his wife with him. Todd, though, didn’t see Trav’s wife even though he was sitting right next to her. The guys then reminded their listeners that Jim Breuer would be stopping by to join them a little later in today’s show.

BW came in with the news, which spawned some discussion about the Miss USA/America/Whatever show that aired over the weekend. Other stories prompted further conversations but for the most part, TnT just wanted to find out if BW hooked up with Christina, the hottie who stopped by the studio last week. Brian said that she didn’t show up at the big street dance in Bennington and other than that, he didn’t have much else to say.

Michael, the ‘’Grim Reaper’’ stopped by the studio this morning with a birthday present for Travis, who turned 32 yesterday. He gave Attaboy an Anna Kournikova calendar that prompted a, ‘’Oh my goodness!’’ from Trav and a temporary lapse of all thought from everyone else. TnT asked Trav about his visit to the Funny Bone last night and from his wife’s count, Trav told TnT that he ingested about 8 gins.

Travis came in with a sports report a little later in the show, which included some talk about his winning Lock of the Week pick. He’s now 2-4 and from the sounds of it, the guys are going to ask him to pick between the Huskers and Iowa State this week to add a little interest to the game. Tune in on Wednesday for Trav’s Lock.

Jim Breuer came into the studio at 8am this morning, bringing with him his comedian/guitar buddy Paul Vohn. He began his visit by talking with TnT about his days on SNL. He imitated Norm McDonald, nailing him, and did Tracy Morgan and Dave Shapell, too. He described the work atmosphere of the show and how cut-throat it was most of the time, mentioning that he actually got along with everyone but was forced out by a couple of the writers who wanted to bring in other guys.

As the SNL talk continued Jim described getting crap from Joe Pecci about his impersonation of him and then talked a little about SNL pot smokers. Jim also spent quite a bit of time talking about his father and how he reacted to meeting famous people who came to the SNL stage. There were some hilarious stories, one involving John Goodman drinking all of Jim’s father’s beer, pissing off Jim’s father in the process.

Later, there was some talk of Jim’s role in ‘’Half Baked’’. Following that, he talked about how he was called a ‘’loser’’ by some hog that was about to throw her kid to the carp at the zoo yesterday. Jim mentioned that he was bummed out with our zoo because the animals didn’t look happy. He seemed most depressed about the crappy gorilla exhibit. From there, Jim talked about being a fat kid and discussed his eyelids, which make him look like he’s always stoned. He spent the remainder of the show joining in on the topics of the day, sharing other stories, and singing along with a couple of on-the-fly tunes (like AC-DC doing the Hokey Pokey). BW returned later in the show with an entertainment report. This morning’s report included a recap of last night’s Emmy awards, which none of the guys got to see because they were out at the Jim Breuer show, as well as some ‘’This day in history’’ stuff and a few celebrity birthdays. BW then read another stellar wedding announcement, which included a photo from the paper of a sleeping Pope attending a pretentious Catholic wedding somewhere in Rome. He concluded the e-news with a hilarious story about a woman getting busted for giving her husband and his brother Diekmans on a train somewhere in New York.

Todd and Tyler will be out at Brewsky’s tonight for another installment of Monday Night Football. To get registered to win the Best Buy TV tonight, you must show up in some sort of wedding apparel (a ring doesn’t count!). It is, after all, wedding week on the TnT show. Keep in mind that the Golden Rods will be playing on the big screen before the MNF game so make sure to stop out early.
