TnT Show 04-11-2003

Friday 4-11-03

Todd and Tyler started off their show today with a little talk about yesterday’s ass licking and farting subjects, which included them reading over a couple of related e-mails. They also welcomed Black Tony into the studio, a Friday tradition, and spent some time talking with him about his son’s Millard baseball team. ‘’He’s got his own little fountain and everything.’’ The guys then set up what we were to expect from the rest of their show, which included a conversation from Johnny Van Zant of Lynard Skynard, an interview with Tommy Shaw of Styx, an in studio visit from Creighton coach Dana Altman, and a visit with their comedy buddy Mark Gross.

BW provided this morning’s news segment, which TnT kicked off by playing the old ‘’The only constant is you!’’ audio from when BW pitifully attempted to ask former mayor Hal Daub a question years ago. Hearing that classic old clip prompted Tyler to scroll through the audio files in their computer. Many of the clips, named by former producer Donnie, were titled things that didn’t give the guys any indication of what was actually on the recording. So TnT spent some time going through the list, playing various clips, and pondering aloud how Donnie was ever able to keep anything straight. Later in the show, Donnie phoned in to assist TnT in recognizing what some of the files were. He, too, had trouble remembering why he had named most of the files the way he did.

Also during the news, Todd and Tyler had a lengthy conversation with Brian about brand loyalty. The discussion was spawned by a story about Shell buying up all of the Texaco stations in town. Beginning with brand loyalty to a particular company’s gas, the subject morphed into brand loyalty to sodas, hot dogs, catsup, and many more things.

The groom from Todd and Tyler’s in studio marriage for a trip to Vegas from a few weeks ago sent TnT an audiotape of him singing a parody song about the whole marriage situation. The guys said that the audio quality was very poor on the tape so they opted to read the lyrics Bill wrote instead. After determining that Bill was attempting to parody some twanged up neck tune, they analyzed the lyrics and offered up suggestions to better them. They had a bit of trouble finding words that rhymed with ‘’tits’’ but after the listeners began to check in, the rewriting process took off. The guys tried to phone Bill and coax him into coming into the studio to perform the song live but got his voice mail. Later, after some speculation and conformation from one of the friends of Kiri, the bride, it seemed to everyone that the song was a little bit ‘’stalker-ish’’ or ‘’date rape-y’’ and that Bill might be more into Kiri than Kiri is into Bill.

Johnny Van Zant of Lynard Skynard spoke to Todd and Tyler this morning. TnT began the interview by talking about their new song, ‘’Red, White, and Blue’’. Johnny talked about how the song came about, referencing post 9-11 patriotic feelings, and how the song fits into the mentality of today, due to the war in Iraq. The guys then moved on to discuss Skynard’s future plans, which include a summer tour with Sammy Hagar. Todd and Tyler also asked Johnny about how the band picks out songs for their tours, pointing out that having such a massive catalogue of hits the fans want to hear must make it rather difficult. It was another great Todd and Tyler interview with Johnny Van Zant of Lynard Skynard this morning. If you happened to miss it, try to catch it on Sunday night’s best of show or tune in on Saturday morning.

Travis came in with the sports report on this Big Beefy Friday a bit later in the show. He admitted to TnT that while he was in Salt Lake City, he had a brain fart and accidentally wolfed down a Whopper on Friday. He didn’t, however, cave in and eat any steak from the Nebraska Beef Company today. During the sportscast, the gang had a lengthy conversation centering on vocabulary. The questions of the day, which make the Scopes Monkey Trial seem trivial in its significance, were Pop Vs. Soda, Sack Vs. Bag, and the proper pronunciation of Norfolk and ‘’horrible’’.

Celebrity Catholic Coach Dana Altman from the Creighton Blue Jays joined the guys in studio this morning. He spent some time talking with the guys about this season, it’s disappointing finish, and his plans for next year. The coach discussed recruiting and how he has been taking potential players to see the new arena, too. The gang spent quite a bit of time talking about any job offers Dana may or may not have had, specifically the Georgia job, to which the coach said he just wouldn’t have been ‘’a good fit’’.

Mark Gross from the Funny Bone joined Todd and Tyler a bit later in the show. He talked briefly about being on ‘’The Tonight Show’’, gave some details about how he read for a part in the defunct show Kramer attempted, mentioned a pilot he’s helping to write featuring Rodney Carrington and Damon Waynes, and the old Grosser joined in on the other topics of the morning. Make sure you get out to the Funny Bone to see Mark this weekend. He’s absolutely one of the best! Call 493-8036 for reservations.

BW returned later in the show with today’s e-news segment. The gang spent some time talking about Sean Penn’s stolen car/guns and they discussed Dennis Miller’s recent bashing of the French. Brian then read over an ‘’Ask Annie’’ story regarding a wife finding out that her husband has been posting nude photos of her on a web site. To no one’s surprise, every guy in the studio asked, nearly simultaneously, ‘’What’s the web site address?’’ It was hilarious. BW then read over an obscure dead guy and did some ‘’Who the hell is that?’’

Before wrapping up today’s show, Todd and Tyler spoke to Tommy Shaw of Styx. They’re coming to the new CB Mid America Center with REO Speed Wagon and Journey on May 31st. TnT discussed the lineup and found out that REO and Styx are playing swap the spot during the tour. The gang asked about any future Damn Yankees plans, something they’ve been hearing from Nugent for years, but Tommy said that due to the busy schedules of all the DYs, there wasn’t anything currently in the works. TnT then spent some time talking about how Styx selects its songs for their tours and gave Tommy a little bit of a hard time about the ‘’Mr. Roboto’’ days, which he took goodheartedly.

Before letting him go, Todd read over some Styx trivia for Tommy, which he nailed. That led to some talk about Billy Bob Thornton doing a small audio clip on their newest album and some talk about how the whole ‘’Come Sail Away’’ South Park thing happened. It was really cool. You’ll be able to get your tickets for the May 31st Show at the Mid America Center, I believe tomorrow.

Well, that’s the Friday update. Tune in on Sunday at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay of this morning’s show and make sure you rejoin the guys Monday morning at 5:30am as they kick off yet another stellar week of programming. Hey, get out to see Mark Gross at the Funny Bone this weekend, too! Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
