TnT Show 07-01-2003

Tuesday 7-1-03

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning with a little talk about how they don’t get the Dave Matthews Band. The subject came up as Tyler shared a story about his recent vacation. At one point, he ended up in a pool bar having a beer with his dad surrounded by 20-something college girls mouthing the lyrics to an unlistenable Dave Matthews Band song. The guys then moved on to talk about this Thursday’s anniversary party at the Anchor Inn. The party begins at noon and will feature a bunch of local bands tearing up the stage. And with the 4th of July approaching, the guys spent some time talking about the annual Ralston parade they’ll be participating in again this year. They’re hoping to break their 76-beer record from last year so if you spot the guys during the parade, hook’em up with some beers. Also early, the guys spent a few moments talking about their interview with Buddy Hackett from a few years ago, as there was news today that Hackett died yesterday afternoon in his Malibu home.

Trisha Meuret from Channel 7 joined the guys in studio today for BW, who was away with some sort of undisclosed emergency. Before diving into the news, she talked with TnT about an upcoming party trip to Chicago she and her girlfriends are going on. Then she destroyed the hopes and desires of every short guy in town by disclosing that she likes to date guys that are as tall if not taller than she is. That led to a discussion about going on vacation with guys and prompted Todd to talk about how he has at least one meltdown on every vacation he goes on. The meltdown he suffered on his most recent camping trip was sparked by the breakage of a sweat pants drawstring breaking on him as he attempted to use the bathroom in a Montana Pizza Hut. Trisha later got into the morning news report, which led to lots of discussion about the upcoming Sigerson/McPherson trial, crank head truck drivers, and a variety of other subjects.

Trav came in a bit later in the show and joined in on the topics of the morning. He spent some time discussing recent FWIW feedback, as a bunch of racists didn’t like his take on Strom Thurmond. In fact, he referred to their verbal assault as a ‘’big beating’’. During the discussion, the gang took a call from Tim Butts of the Nebraska ACLU. He talked with the guys about the recent Supreme Court decision declaring it unconstitutional for Texas to ban butt sex and what that might mean for Nebraska’s 416 law. From there, Travis jumped back into sports mode and wrapped up his segment with some talk about the Baylor basketball player that was allegedly murdered.

Following the sports, Todd and Tyler spoke to Chad from Ticket Express this morning. They spent some time discussing the CWS turnout this year, talked about how radio sales people are trying to bring back the barter system, and they covered some of the regional activities Chad is able to get tickets for, including tonight’s Tom Petty show at the MAC over in Council Bluffs. For information, you can visit Ticket Express on the web via their web site, ticketexpress.com College World Series Nebraska Football Omaha Concert.

Todd and Tyler spoke to Robert Palmer this morning. He has a new CD out and is making the rounds promoting it. To begin the interview, the guys talked with Robert about his home in Switzerland, where he’s lived for the last 15 years. Contrary to popular belief, they do pay taxes in Switzerland. Prior to moving there, he spent quite a bit if time in the Bahamas but had to move after his dog was shot. ‘’It was drug related’’, he said. The guys moved on to discuss how his videos are still popular on VH1, which he seemed to enjoy hearing, and then they talked about his rock influences, the various bands he’s been in, what the future holds for the current album, and more about his career. The gang eventually got back on the subject of Robert’s Switzerland home, where he spends much time watching movies in his home theater and from the sounds of it, getting high. The guys got off on a hilarious and lengthy tangent about the legalized pot situation in Switzerland, which included talk of the price, the quality, and a story how some dumb Italian guys were recently busted for trying to smuggle all of the pot bought from the shops near Robert’s home across the border into Italy. It was an excellent conversation with Robert Palmer this morning. I’m sure you’ll be hearing it on a Best Of in the near future so stay tuned.

Chris Osborne of CNN’s ‘’Headline News’’ spoke to Todd and Tyler this morning. The gang spent some time discussing the current situation in Iraq, which has recently been compared to the gorilla-like warfare fought in Vietnam. Chris shared his thoughts on the future for the reason, with TnT interjecting their opinions on the subject as well. From all accounts, terrorism isn’t going away and it is definitely important to find Saddam in Iraq because if we don’t, he’ll most likely end up back in power in some form. Following the war talk, the guys moved on to discuss Chris’s career in the news industry at both CNN and Fox. After hearing about Chris’s possible upcoming pre-engagement, TnT brought up their earlier discussion about how long it takes before a fight breaks out when he and his woman go on vacation. It was cool to hear from Chris Osborne again. TnT will have him back on the air again in the future, especially as things in Iraq continue to unfold.

Todd and Tyler announced the participants for this year’s Battle of the Bands to see which local band will open up this year’s Z-Bash. The event is taking place at the Anchor Inn on Saturday, July 12th. The bands that will be on stage competing include Cheshire Grin, Sonic Diversion, Ox 45, and Extend. The guys played a few clips from various songs of each of the bands and as they did so, repeatedly pointed out that they had nothing to do with the selection of what bands would be in this year’s contest. This in hopes of avoiding the onslaught of pissed off local band guys questioning them as to why their band wasn’t chosen to participate.

To wrap up the show, Trisha returned with this morning’s e-news segment. The gang discussed rapper talk, how gay Clay from the most recent ‘’American Idol’’ show possibly is, there was some talk about reality TV with mention of a ‘’Big Brother 4’’ twist and talk of CBS’s ‘’The Amazing Race’’, and there was some talk about the career of Buddy Hackett. Also during the e-news, the guys got off on a ‘’Golden Girls’’ tangent, they played a little B-52’s ‘’Love Shack’’, and Trisha read a lengthy list of ‘’Who the hell is that’’ people.

Well, that does it for the Tuesday update. Tune in tonight at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay of this morning’s show and make sure to rejoin the guys tomorrow at 5:30am for the Wednesday program. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
