TnT Show 07-03-2003

Thursday 7-3-03

Todd and Tyler started off their mental Friday by welcoming Black Tony to the studio. With the celebration of the country’s independence taking place tomorrow, TnT tried to calculate how many years we’ve been a country. That then led Black Tony to express how he isn’t counting the first 100 years because of that whole slavery thing. This conversation caused the guys’ heads to melt down as they tried some 5:42am mathematics. TnT then discussed a rumor that some US soldiers had tried to put a Todd and Tyler t-shirt on some Iraqi guys but they were told not to because ‘’it is against the Geneva Convention’’, which they got a kick out of. The gang then moved on to talk about the fireworks Jeremy bought yesterday and how there are more ‘’firework enthusiasts’’ in Omaha than in any other town TnT have lived in. This then led into talk about TnT’s participation in the 4th of July Ralston parade tomorrow at 1pm, where the guys hope to acquire a record-breaking amount of beers from the crowd (more than 76 will do it!).

BW came in with news a bit later in the show with this morning’s newscast. The gang talked a bit more about the overpass brick throwers that killed a Council Bluffs woman, there was some Roger Van news, and the guys talked about measuring hail chunks and checking their hogs. The guys also talked about a South O bar that was busted on some cocaine charges, they moved on to talk about a few fireworks accidents reported in the news yesterday, and TnT commented on Bush’s recent ‘’Bring’em on!’’ comment.

Also during the news, Brian reported that today is the 40th anniversary of the zip code. To get the perspective of someone who worked for the post office, TnT phoned Tyler’s dad. He talked with the guys about what it was like when the zip code was first introduced and how people didn’t take to it right away. He also explained the theory behind the zip +4 thing, which nobody uses but according to Ed, ‘’should’’. Their conversation with Tyler’s dad was not only entertaining, but also quite informative. Following their call to Ed, BW wrapped up the newscast with a hilarious story about a bunch of drunk guys who held a guy hostage for 4 hours because they couldn’t find the party’s keg, which ended up being in the front yard.

Barbara, the lady BW shared a road rage incident with last week, stopped by the studio this morning for a group hug make-up session. Things didn’t seem to go exactly as planned, though, because she and BW started snipping at each other right from the start. The two picked up right where they left off, arguing over whether or not the road they were on did or did not have some construction going on, who was in the wrong, and more. Eventually the road construction thing was cleared up by a bunch of callers that checked in with details about the area. Later, Barbara and BW seemingly made up and gave each other a hug, yet they still both seemed very edgy about the whole situation. A word to the wise, if you see BW on the road, get out of his anger-management-needing way!

Travis came in with this morning’s sports report a bit later in the show. Before going into it, he talked with TnT about his holiday weekend plans. He’s going to be taping a couple of FWIW commentaries this afternoon so he doesn’t have to go in this weekend. Then, as their conversation continued, the gang somehow got off on a lengthy tangent about roller coasters. Jeremy’s new woman is a huge roller coaster fan so he came into the studio and talked about a recent and upcoming roller coaster riding vacation they are doing. Everyone else shared their theme park and roller coaster stories as well, with a friendly argument breaking out over which is better, wood or steel coasters.

Also during the sports, the guys spent some time talking about a report on a CBS sports web site that listed Memorial Stadium in Lincoln as the #6 college sports atmosphere. The guys read over the account from the web site and discussed its points. They agreed with some things but disagreed with others.

As the sports machine rolled on, the gang got off on another tangent about how the Republicans are trying to crack down on radio stations. The gang discussed what limits could be pushed and the fines that are associated with going too far. Trav tried to convince TnT that they need to be fined in order to have truly ‘’made it’’ in their industry. The guys, and their boss Wex, who stopped by the studio, disagreed. TnT then turned the table and tried to talk Travis into dropping his pants on KM3. ‘’For what it’s worth, this is my ass!’’ said Tyler.

Later in the show, the guys read a hilarious e-mail that related to the guy’s suggestion about Trav showing his butt on TV to push the limits. It was a callback to an earlier topic about how Travis can allow certain words to be aired during his FWIW feedback segment. Trav mentioned that he aired ‘’asshole’’ but bleeped out the ‘’hole’’ part of the word. The e-mailer referred back to TnT’s comments about Trav showing his ass on TV and said he could probably do it but he’d have to blur out his hole. I laughed my ass off, not only at the e-mailer’s suggestion but at the twisted, disgusting, unattractive mental image that popped into my head of a blue dot covering Trav’s exposed bung appearing on my TV screen.

BW returned later in the show with the entertainment news. It began with a lengthy argument about stay-at-home moms. Todd pointed out that even though the job might be difficult at times, it’s not a very hard job in general. He attempted to draw a correlation between what he has done in the afternoon for years, fetching kids, doing laundry, grocery shopping, and fetching more kids, to what a real stay-at-home mom does. He said it’s not that hard, it just takes up a lot of time. Now even though everyone seemed to understand what Todd was trying to say, it still came across to Tyler and BW, as well as a hoard of callers that phoned in to air their opinions, that Todd was bashing stay-at-home moms. Many stay-at-home moms checked in to give Todd a hard time and eventually the guys got sick of hearing ‘’I work my butt off’’ talk, agreeing that being a stay-at-home mom ‘’isn’t the easiest job in the world.’’

When the e-news got fired up, the guys discussed Farm Aid, a Big Fat Greek lawsuit, Chilean scientists being stumped by some whale blubber, religious cartoons, and they also spent some time discussing today’s ‘’Who the hell is that’’ report. The gang then got into a lengthy WKRP discussion, pointing out inaccuracies on the show. The conversation was hilarious but the guys did sound like radio geeks nitpicking how their own career is portrayed on the tube.

Following the KRP talk, TnT welcomed October calendar hottie Summer into the studio. She was in the building to drywall some stuff up on the 4th floor of the Z building and stopped by to say hi. BW may or may not have popped a chubber, and from what we as the listeners have been able to gather, it wasn’t the first time BW’s boner has been in the same room with Summer, allegedly, speculation, and more allegedly. Peach and Lester also came in the studio later in the show, which led to a discussion about released Mellencamp songs because of Lester being a Yankee Doodle Dandy. The e-news segment then wrapped up with some talk about a giant hotdog that weighted a couple of million pounds.

Todd and Tyler will be out at the Anchor Inn tonight for a huge 4th of July party. The event begins at 6pm but the doors open at noon. There are 4 bands playing tonight and there’s no cover charge. Stop on out to the Anchor Inn for tonight’s party and make sure you look for Todd and Tyler in the Ralston parade tomorrow afternoon.

That does it for the Thursday update. TnT will not be on the air tomorrow because of the holiday so tune in for the Best Of and make sure to rejoin the guys when they return on Monday July 7th as they kick off another week of stellar radio programs. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
