TnT Show 07-14-2003

Monday 7-14-03

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning by talking about the variety of fast food litter that was scattered all over the studio and office by the Z weekend staff. They were amazed at the quantity of fast food that was devoured this weekend, the weekenders seemingly hitting all but a very few fast food joints at one point or another on Saturday and Sunday. Following those comments, TnT moved on to discuss their weekend. Tyler went to see the Street of Dreams in the newly established Bennington Lakes neighborhood, mentioned that he went to see Blue House play, and didn’t go into a single home because he would have been required to take off his shoes to avoid scuffing up the multi-million dollar homes in the area. This led the guys into a discussion about how if they were able to afford one of the homes on the Street of Dreams, the last place they’d chose to purchase a house would be in Bennington, affectionately referring to that town as “The street of broken dreams”.

Also over the weekend, Todd and Tyler hosted the Battle of the Bands at the Anchor Inn on Saturday night. After a little talk about the event, the guys said that they would bring in James the Giant Peach later in today’s show for the official announcement of this year’s winner. The guys mentioned their disappointment in the lack of Z staff that attended the event, referring to Peach as the only other staff member that bothered to show up. TnT then spent a few minutes talking with BW about what he did over the weekend before diving into this morning’s news report.

During Brian’s newscast, the gang spent some time talking about library closings, specifically the library off of 90th and Dodge Street. This story led to a lengthy conversation about what the city should do about the closing. BW made the comment about how he felt that the schools should be opened up as libraries during their off season, which led to a flood of calls from listeners who didn’t seem to like his idea. Many of the listeners somehow got it in their heads that the public libraries are full of pedophiles and that by opening up the schools to the regular library-goers, it would just increase the amount of child sexual abuse cases. The argument, seemingly out of the blue, put BW on the defense as he tried to clarify what he meant. It was a rather humorous and unexpected twist during the news that I don’t think anyone really expected. Exactly how does one get “I want the pedophiles in the schools” out of “The schools could be used as libraries to help save money”?

As the news continued, the gang spent some time discussing “Boys Don’t Cry” CSI, there was talk of a man pushed out of a moving van, Brian reported some more Pamplona Spain bull goring news and more calls continued to come in from listeners wanting to discuss the library issue. The gang also briefly touched on the Sigerson and McPherson Red Robin case, which goes into court today. Everyone still seemed amused that the two could have settled the case out of court months ago by paying a ticket but have decided to drag it out in the media and court system for months on end for apparently no reason at all.

Larry the Cable Guy checked in this morning and delivered a commentary on how Jerry Springer is running for Senate in Ohio. It was filled with references to transvestite midgets and other freaks Springer has been known to feature on his show. Larry will check in again as the week moves on so stay tuned for more from the Cable Guy.

Trav came in a bit later in the show and hung out with the guys for a bit. He began his visit by talking about judging a grilling competition in Harlan, IA over the weekend. He then spent a few minutes talking about his Friday FWIW commentary on the KM3 newscast, which was about he Omaha police officer that left a death in the family notice on a poor lady’s answering machine. Somehow, that discussion morphed into talk about strange ways people have broken up with each other. Trav shared a little Justice history and talked about how he was dumped and picked back up by his wife when they were dating in college. During their “year off”, Travis was dating a woman from the TV station he worked at. Disputing ever having had sex with her, “We went to several movies”, Trav said he just stopped talking to the woman when his now-wife decided to get back together.

Trav’s story about his breakup led to some callers checking in with odd breakup stories as well. One person was broken up with via an Instant Message box on their computer screen, another lady was dumped via a cell phone text message, one guy was broken up with by the nurse of his girlfriend standing in the doctor’s office after the girlfriend had just found out she was pregnant with the guy’s baby, and yet another man was dumped by his woman when the break-up message was relayed to him by the 10-year-old daughter of the woman he was seeing/living with.

The breakup stories also had another twist today, as listeners checked in with tales of breaking up yet still going on vacations with each other after they had called things off. Tyler shared a couple of similar stories of his own during this time. And to keep things interesting, Todd and Tyler brought in Jessica Dol to talk about how she and Jeremy broke up. The two were actually in bed together when she made advances on the sleepy Jeremy and he turned her down. They rolled over, talked face to face, and decided things wouldn’t work out.

After the relationship and break-up talk, Travis delivered this morning’s sports report. During that time, Todd and Tyler spoke with former Husker and current college football referee Clete Blakeman. They talked about the upcoming season, reffing in general, and some of the changes made to the Husker program this year. After his call, Travis delivered a sports story out of Vegas that involved naked women being shot at by paintball guns. The guys took a few phone calls from listeners that have been blasted by the painful paint balls in the past, many of today’s callers having been tagged in the sack, and everyone seemed to agree that getting hit by a paint ball, especially when naked like these women were, would totally suck. Although, everyone seemed to like the idea of popping hot, naked Vegas strippers in the butt cheek with their guns.

BW returned later in the show with today’s e-news segment. During that time, the guys talked a bit about the Atkins diet, which BW says he’s now on, there was some talk about the upcoming American Idol 3 tryouts, BW reported on a Boston music award show that is to feature a kick-ass band called the Dropkick Murphys, and there was a little Judas Priest news. He also spent some time going over today’s “This day in history” news, “Who the hell is that?” and he read over a bit of trivia for Todd and Tyler.

Well, that does it for today’s update. Tune in tonight at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay and make sure you rejoin Todd and Tyler tomorrow morning at 5:30am for the Tuesday show. They’re going to have people in from the Shelter Belt Theater group, who will be performing the rock opera classic “Tommy” in the near future. Don’t miss it. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
