TnT Show 08-28-2003

Thursday 8-28-03

Todd and Tyler kicked off their show this morning with a little talk about a Real Sports feature on former Husker Johnny Mitchell. TnT wondered about the guy, having arrived after he left the state for an NFL career, and pondered where he was from before playing here. They talked about some of the things the feature mentioned, which made him out to be kind of a strange self-centered guy, focusing on his handless Brazilian kid. From there, the gang discussed the 13-year-old Asian golf phenom, there was some talk about the Todd and Tyler panties and the upcoming on-stage Panty Parade at the Anchor on Sunday, and the guys mentioned the rest of the events for this morning’s show that they had planned.
BW came in with the news later in the show. Before he dove into it, there was some talk about BW’s bad luck streak. His truck broke down yesterday, his AC went out last night, and his AOL account was hacked. Somehow out of that conversation, the phrase “ass hair hats” was born, spawned by talk about BW’s butt hair.
When BW got into the news, the gang discussed a couple of horrible stories before moving on to a more fun topic, Brewsky’s free beer promotion with an off-campus bookstore near UNL. There was also a story about how caffeine may not dehydrate you as previously thought. TnT spoke to Dr. in training, Rob Zatechka, about the study and continued their conversation with some college football talk. From the sounds of it, we’ll be hearing more from Rob about his thoughts on football as the season gets underway. BW then read over a story on how the 10 Commandments monument was finally removed from that building in Alabama. Just as he read that story, Travis popped his head in and caused yet another argument. The gang battled back and forth about the subject, which Trav picked for his FWIW last night.
Also during the news, Tyler handed BW a publication that he picked up while at the gym the other day called “The West O”. Inside it was an article about what attracts the opposite sex. BW read over the list, which seemed to include both a men and women’s point of view. For the most part, the list seemed to be total crap. Women love it when you can write nice card messages, take naps with them, and so on. Everyone seemed to agree that all of the things the paper said West O women want from their men would cut out all men except for gay guys. BW then concluded the newscast with a heartwarming story about a mother that stripped for her teenage kid and his buddies in a hotel room after getting them drunk.
Travis came in with the sports report a bit later in the show. Along with his report, he talked about covering this Saturday’s Husker game, some high school football stuff, and recent FWIW reaction calls, specifically reaction about his thoughts on kids getting out of school early because of the heat. He pointed to a record high of 104 degrees set in 1954 as proof that it’s no hotter today than it was when the gang in studio was going to school and they never got sent home early.
Mike Stankowitz from the Funny Bone joined the guys in studio this morning. They joked about whether or not Mike has ever been called “Stanky” for short, which he said he had. He joined in on the topics of the morning and seemed to enjoy his time with the guys. For tickets or information, call the Bone Phone at 493-8036.
Mark Walberg, the host of Temptation Island, spoke with the guys this morning. The new season, TemptationIsland 3, premieres tonight on Fox and will last for the next 8 weeks. The show was filmed in the BayIslands off the coast of Central America. He discussed some of the past seasons and the “dramatic sort of soap opera” things turned out to be, stating that there’s some steamy stuff this season but maybe not as much as in season 2. Mark talked about his relaxation time, as he’s not always working while on the island. He also talked with the guys about how people on reality shows in general are only appearing on the shows to get famous or as a “launching ground” for the rest of the entertainment industry. Mark also joked with the guys about their idea of putting hookers on the show as the singles. Plans for TemptationIsland 4 are possible but they’re looking to burn through season 3 first. Tune in to Fox tonight for the show and stay tuned to TnT for more TemptationIsland hottie talk in the future.
BW delivered this morning’s e-news segment later in today’s show. There was some talk about how Christina Aguilera has been taking things from Britney Spears (including a shoe contract and Britney’s old bang, Justin Timberlake). After that story, Clete Blakeman joined the guys in studio and talked a little college football officiating. He answered a couple of questions about the rules of the game and discussed a variety of penalties, what weighs down the ref’s flag, and whether the refs are allowed to poke players in the eye. Some listeners checked in with officiating questions as well, including one question about whether or not players are allowed to switch jerseys on the sidelines to confuse the opponents. Evidentially, this actually happened back under the watch of T.O. in ’84 (I believe).
Blakeman, a Harley guy, joined TnT in welcoming Todd and Tyler’s Harley buddy Roz stopped in this morning to talk to the guys about the big Harley giveaway she’s been working on all summer long, which takes place on September 13th. Also on Tuesday September 2nd, Roz will be at the Harley shop near 72nd and L Street doing a radio remote along with BW, which will be your last chance to buy tickets for the Harley raffle.
BW continued this morning’s e-news segment with a story about Tom Cruise singing Elvis tunes with the Japanese Prime Minister. The gang then took a “rice rocket” supporter call, unrelated to the previous story. They also talked about a video clip made by a 15-year-old kid going total Jedi Master, available at JediMaster.net, laughing uproariously as they watched the clip. I checked it out myself and laughed so hard that I can only remember one other e-news story, which was about some pugs humping on a playground. Check out the Star Wars Kid video. It’s hilarious.
Chris Henderson, guitarist for the band 3 Doors Down, spoke to the guys about their tomorrow night gig at the Nebraska State Fair. He sounded rather tired even though there were no women on the tour bus. He discussed the pro-troop video they made and the reaction that the band has seen from it. He also discussed growing up down South and the types of musical influences he grew up with, most with a “southern flair”. There was a little Nascar talk, mostly about drivers who he hangs with.
Well that does it for the Thursday update. Tune in tonight at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay of this morning’s show and make sure to rejoin the guys for the big Friday program tomorrow morning at 5:30am. Thanks for watching. Good night. –Corby-
