TnT Show 10-07-2003

Tuesday 10-7-03

Todd and Tyler started their show this morning with a discussion of popular rock acts that have sold their music for commercials. The guys gave examples such as The Who and Zeppelin as such sellouts but they both seemed to agree that they couldn’t blame the rock giants for selling out for such large amounts of cash. The guys then moved on to a little more Chad Kelsay talk. Evidentially, Trisha from Channel 7 did a story on him last night detailing exactly what he did. She even recreated the “pull yourself up to the salsa bar and drink a ladle full of melted cheese” allegation. TnT later spoke to Trisha who confirmed much of what they have heard.

Also early in the show, the guys spent a little time talking about their Monday Night Football party last night at Brewsky’s. Consequently, they were quite hungry and hung over this morning and when they realized their 5:30am hangover sponsor hadn’t delivered their eats yet, they got a bit pissy and complained about their lack of snacks on the air. Jacks BBQ, this month’s sponsor, arrived shortly after, though, and filled TnT’s bellies right out of the realm of crabbiness.

The gang then spent a bit of time discussing other random subjects for a while. Tyler went to the DMV yesterday and got mad when he saw a “God will handle everything” sign behind the counter of one of the employees. He wondered what ever happened to the whole separation of church and state thing and wondered whether or not the employee sticking up their religious propaganda in a government office might have broken any laws. He then wondered why God didn’t “handle” his $252 licensing fee. On a related note, the gang continued their God talk by expressing how sick they are of athletes thanking Jesus every time they score or do anything. The guys thought it might be a good subject for a FWIW commentary from Travis, later bringing it up to the sports guy and causing a lengthy argument.

Before the news, TnT switched gears for a moment and mentioned the new Z-92 25th Anniversary Memory Phone Line that has been set up by the station so you can call in all of your memories of Z-92. The number is 898-ROCK. TnT seemed to be of the opinion that the idea was rather lame and pointed out several times that not everyone in the listening audience grew up with their ears glued to the mighty Z. So to illustrate this, they phoned the number themselves and left messages about what they were doing 25 years ago and can you believe it? Their messages had nothing to do with Z-92. It was rather funny.

Snowball came in with the news a bit later in the show. The gang discussed the Ivan Hank trial, the cop car thieves, a van stealing bridge faller, the body of a murdered Omaha woman being found in Washington County, the city-county merger proposal, a bike path on the runway at the airport, the California elections, and there was some discussion of how some Carter Lake residents are trying to stop the opening of a Mexican restaurant for what seemed to be racial reasons. TnT also spent some time discussing with Brian and later with Travis ESPN possibly turning into another premium channel on local cable TV, much like what HBO does. Brian then wrapped up the newscast with a story about some frog eggs that fell from the sky in Connecticut, a sign of the apocalypse.

Jimmy, the host of Cornhusker Insider on Z-92’s sister station 1490AM, joined the guys in studio for a while. Along with expressing how horny he is throughout pretty much his entire visit to the show, dropping multiple “beaver” bombs and making references to various “honeys and hotties”, he joined in on the Chad Kelsay discussion and shared his thoughts on the Husker season so far.

Trav came in this morning and began his visit by having a lengthy argument with Todd and Tyler about the use of prayer in the sporting world. Trav didn’t seem to have a problem with those who thanked Jesus after scoring while TnT thought it was nothing more than showing off for the camera. Trav later got into an argument with a caller over a catholic judge that is on the 3-judge death penalty panel. He got into yet another argument/discussion with TnT and Jimmy about whether or not Tommy Frazier is indeed a millionaire thanks to the Canadian Football League. Along with all of the arguments, Travis delivered sports.

Coach Dana Altman of the Creighton Blue Jays phoned TnT this morning and spent some time discussing the upcoming season. They lost a lot of key players last year so TnT tried to find out who the new players to keep an eye on are. They also talked with the coach about all of the “bad haircuts” the team has and asked about any Corver-like heartthrobs on this year’s squad. There was a bit of recruiting talk, discussion of the new Arena as the home of the Blue Jays this season, and TnT prodded the coach about the process other teams go through if they are interested in hiring away a coach. Tonight is “Pick your seat” night at the new arena from 5:30 to 8pm where you can get in free and see Creighton practice. Stop on out and see the new facility.

The last hour and a half or so of the TnT show this morning was spent with Poison front man Bret Michaels. He’s appearing at the Royal Grove tonight in Lincoln on his solo tour with his backup band American Anthem. He talked at length with TnT about the history of the band, important moments in their career, various fights he and CC got into, and all of the hotties he has tattooed on his hip. Bret also discussed his plans for 2004, which include work on a new CD and DVD that will feature film clear back in the old days of Mechanicsburg, PA in the early 80’s.

Bret later performed an acoustic version of “Something To Believe In”, which sounded awesome. The doors for tonight’s concert in Lincoln open at 7pm but the first 92 people to get there starting at about 6pm will get into a pre-show sound check party as well as the concert for free. American Anthem will get on stage at around 8pm and Bret will join them for a 50-50 Poison-Solo set at about 9:15pm. Stop on out to Lincoln tonight at the Royal Grove and catch Bret Michaels.

Due to the lengthy interview with Bret, BW cancelled this morning’s e-news segment altogether. It will return tomorrow, though, so don’t fret.

Well, that does it for today’s update. Tune in tonight at 10pm for the 3rd Shift Replay of this morning’s show and make sure to rejoin the guys tomorrow at 5:30am for the Wednesday edition. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
