590 Signal

T&T get all kinds of calls and e-mails from people in different states saying how far the 590 signal can be heard.

I live in Lincoln. I've tried listening to 590 at work, in my car, and at home. And I get the WORST reception in all of these locations. How is it people can hear it clearly in Dog Butt, Colorado, but I can't even hear it clearly in mere Lincoln?

I recently went to the 590 web site and downloaded the player so I can listen to T&T on my computer, but there's no sound! I can get other stations listed in the player fine. But no signal at all on 590 when it even says 'You are listening to 590'. Some stations will say 'this station is not transmitting at present'. But it always says 590 *is* transmitting and I hear nothing. Is anyone else having this problem?

I've even been having trouble getting Z-92 in Lincoln lately. At home and in my car. There's always static. Is there sun spots? Is Z-92 doing some maintenance? Is 590's signal interfering with Z-92?

Cause it's been like this for the last 2-3 weeks.

Thoughts?

Re:590 Signal

yes it could be sun spots....the magnetic storm level has been at catagory 5 (the highest) for the last couple of weeks. I'll try to find the website that shows the warnings and post it later.

I was in Lincoln 2 weeks ago and heard TnT on FM just fine. I was downtown with all the buildings and the signal was strong.

Re:590 Signal

for better AM reception at home, try rotating your radio, on most radio's, the AM attenna is built into the radio. On home stereos, more than likely your received an external am attenna, normally it's black in color, that need's to be attached to the stereo. Refer to your instructions on how to hook it up. Make sure your radio is no where close to computers as it can screw up your reception of AM radio.

As far as work goes, the type of builing you are in can greatly effect radio reception so much so you might as well forget picking up out of town radio stations.

Geez, i'm a geek

Personally, I think JBG should syndicate the show to some surrounding stations. Actually, I think the show is good enough to be syndicated nationally, if only it wasn't so 'local' so to speak.

Craig'smom,

>> for better AM reception at home, try rotating your radio,

I was just trying to see how well I could get the AM signal. I prefer to listen on Z-92. Even when I get the 590 signal, it still has that horribly bland AM sound to it.

>> On home stereos, more than likely your received an external am antenna, normally it\\'s black in color, that need\\'s to be attached to the stereo.

Oh. I have a booster antenna on my home stereo. But lately, I've had to crank that sucker full power in order to get Z-92, and it still have tons of static to it. I hope those sun spots get better soon, cause this really sucks.

>> the type of building you are in can greatly effect radio reception so much so you might as well forget picking up out of town radio stations.

The stereo is in our bar area in the basement and I usually have no problem getting Z-92 with the booster antenna, about half power. But lately it's been a nightmare. Last weekend was a horrible. I had to prop the antenna on one of my really tall speakers in order to even hear the station through a shit load of static. I gave up.

Toad,

What player on Bigsports590's website are you talking about? As far as most people know, their website isn't even up yet.

Re:590 Signal

TnT would LOVE to syndicate the show. But Journal Broadcasting won't do it for some reason. I guess JB doesn't like making lots of money.

TnT are really lucky they got this 590 break. It's SOMETHING. Not what they wanted. But it works for now.

It'll be interesting to see what the ratings are for their show on 590.

Re:590 Signal

I was home this weekend and noticed the reception problems with Z-92. Saturday, I was traveling through Walnut, on the way to Red Oak, and noticed that even there, the Z was fading in and out, however, though it was that way with all Omaha stations. 94.1 was out of KC, couldn't get CD-105 or Retro in. Last night on the way back to Des Moines, the Z was gone near Atlantic and most of the time it's between Adair and Casey on I-80 before I lose the Z.

I think there is a page available on bigsports590.com still available. It used to be an index.asp page, but they removed it. There was some irritation about it for some reason. Either some secret, or features not working, or something.

Anthony P,

>>> What player on Bigsports590\\'s website are you talking about? As far as most people know, their website isn't even up yet.

A couple weeks ago, TnT got a call from a listener who said he could hear the show on 590's website. This was news to TnT as well. So I checked it out.

Simply go to the web site at http://www.magic590.com/
Then, click on 'Click Here To Listen Live' where you can download the player.

If you do this, let me know if you get a signal cause I don't get jack. I can get other stations on the player's list, but not 590 for some reason.

Re:590 Signal

electromagnetic ballasts in flourescent and hid lighting will kill an am signal. also dimmers for flourescent and incandescent lighting will create alot of static for am. i live in lincoln and have had no problem with z's signal, even in the basement.

Re:590 Signal

THat's weird... I tried the same thing and I couldn't get the show in. What I did notice was a scrollin gbanner across the screen that said Magic590 only broadcasted Creighton games. When I listened in, it said it was broadcasting, but I didnt hear anything.

Re:590 Signal

While driving around Lincoln, I cannot get the 590 signal - it's white noise. I get the FM signal just fine - it's the damn building I work in that interferes with all signals.

Damn the man.

Re:590 Signal

I noticed this afternoon downtown I could just barely get 590am in the car, but my car radio AM antennae is a piece of shit.
