Really? Every person in town is a criminal?? I live in CB and have a concealed weapon permit, but I have yet to just shoot someone. I have never even........wait for it.....robbed a bank! Wow! I know it's hard to believe!
I guess I should say that since I've had this permit, I've only carried the gun maybe twice. I mainly wanted it just for the ease of taking to the shooting range and stuff. My luck is I'd get stopped by police and have some explaining to do. Now I just show them the permit and stuff. I do have a shotgun loaded and ready to go if anyone wants to break into my house.

It would be the same thing if the made pot legal. I wouldn't run out and smoke it if it were legal. But some would.

I can see your point but:

If they had that mindset, they would already be that way now. A concealed weapon permit is not really that big of a deal. You can go and buy a handgun now and carry it in your car as long as it is in plain view. Or unloaded and locked in a case. So the guns are out there. I just like the fact that I can protect myself. Having to rely on the cops is not always an option. My life is more mportant than a thug's.
This is not a perfect world and never will be. Criminals will always find a way. I think it is time to fight back against them.

Not trying to ba a post whore.....but I also think in order to get a concealed wepaon permit a person should have to take an advanced gun safety and handling class. And make it expensive to weed out the loonies.

Lighting a joint and pulling a trigger are not even comparable. You can't kill someone by giving them a lit joint.

I am a female and I will tell you that I have been in worse situations that you have - I guarantee it and I would never have wanted a gun to defend myself. I also grew up in Wyoming and hunted and understand the responsibility that comes with gun ownership. Now that I am older I would never hunt again, but let me reassure you I am very capable when it comes to rifles and handguns.
Pulling a trigger to kill a person is not something that could easily be done and if you pull a gun on a "thug" then you have better be prepared to kill them. Also there is the fact the the "thug" could get the gun away from you.
Lets not forget about the person who is very responsible but takes the gun with them to the bar to have just "one" drink and ends up running into friends and stays longer. By the end of the night the responsible person turns into a drunken idiot with a gun in the bar.. A fight breaks out and everyone is F**ked because at least one drunk has a gun.
There is nothing wrong with having a gun permit and carrying a weapon in your car. Just leave it in plain sight, then the "thugs" know you are packing and won't mess with you.. according to your logic...

MMM well stated. I am an EMT and have ended up in a lot of positions where guns and knives are already involved and especially in the drunken situations I think this law just makes it worse. If you are going to carry a hand gun just in the off chance you might run into trouble to have another thing coming, you are most likely already outgunned from the person coing after you. Being an EMT and photographer I am in a lot of places where there is violence, I am also a hunter so I own guns and I just do not see the need for concealed weapons.

Making things expensive won't make a difference. People find the money for something, or they find a way to get it without money. It's not just the "criminals" out there, because as you say, they already have access to weapons. It's common folk as well. We could send them to classes that last a year..still, doesn't change the fact that a normal person in everyday life can have an even occur that changes their mood rapidly. Drunken moment at the bar, spouse cheating on them, lost their job, someone close to them dies, their marshmallow catches fire while making smores ...any of life's normal stresses that have the possiblity of showing up can make plain Dick or Jane emotionally unstable for a period of time. Sometimes they don't handle that stress well, and find a way to channel it unproductively.

I never suggested that anyone who wishes to have a gun is a criminial, but they certainly put themselves in the position to be potentially dangerous to themselves and others.

The "time to fight back against them..." comment reminds me of the mother who see's her child hitting on their brother or sister, and smacks them right before saying "Don't hit!". Is that really sending the right message?

i think my concern is why do people want to be able to hide it. your allowed to have the gun with you, why do you need to be able toi hide it. lost defended having a gun, but didnt make it clear why it needed to be concealed.

tnt also pointed out that if it passes, every place will start wanding and having pat downs ...every bar, ever place that doesnt want guns. people who dont have them will be forced to go through this too...because at that point youll never know if people have guns.

also the pot analogy isnt accurate. smoking pot is illegal, carrying a gun is not. the only change is the concealment.

I am just trying to show another side of this, that's all.

When I said "fight back against them", I meant I am not gonna live in fear of criminals.

I remember Tyler saying he had a golf club or baseball bat that he could use to protect his family or something like that. What is the difference between a gun or a bat? You can kill someone just as easy with a bat. Or you can take course in home /personal defense and learn to control yourself. If you don't want to carry a gun, fine. I don't care.

I just don't buy the idea that someone will all of a sudden be so pissed that they will shoot their boss because they can all of a sudden carry a gun. No, you just don't change like that. If that guy was so crazy pissed, chances are he would've done it anyway. He can just go to his car now and get the gun....so that argument makes no sense.
You can't say everyone will get trigger happy. It just didn't happen over here in Iowa.

Oh and by the way, it was not legal to carry a firearm in city limits of Tombstone. Only on private property and the only time you could carry one legally was when you were leaving town.

As for why you should be able to conceal it: WEll, does it matter if it is in plain view? No. It's the same.

Also, isn't this a state thing? Omaha can pass a law to ban concealed weapons in city limits. Can't they?

well you kinda are living in fear aren't you? ie; the handgun. People own guns for 2 reasons, one, they are afraid of something or two, they enjoy the power it gives them. And in and of themselves I have no problem with. To each his/her own.

The problem starts when the line between fear and power begins to fade and the two cross-mesh. Thugs are nothing but power hungry gutless pussies. A very bad combination of both. As long as you remain one or the other, I am fine with that, because you still have respect for the weapon.

Now Im going to go into the backyard and bury my glock then plant a pot seed.

You can kill someone with a bat - yes you are right. However a gun can kill someone with one finger and you really can't sneak a bat into a bar..

You would be surprised at how few people would actually carry a gun anyway. I said before I only carry mine to the shooting range.
I am just not buying the arguments against it. We will have to just agree to disagree.
