Re: Switching Political Parties

Osborne can have his Nebraska Values, but okay, I just do not see him being a progressive person. What do you hear about him in Congress, nothing, you hear about what all of our other representatives are doing except maybe Lee Terry. Nebraska is lagging behine the rest of the country in my view and we need to be progressive to keep our young bright people here. I just do not see Osborne sitting in Cuba making the multi million dollar trade deals that Heineman is etc.

I just think Osborne is to conservative for what we need and not forward thinking.

Another rundown here

Osborne is for alcohol control, wants gun control he is definately not pro choice according to the rankings of the Human Rights Commission he is anti gay, he is anti gambling and the list goes on.

A note on one of those, not that I totally support abortion but at the same time, there are times I think when it is needed so I do not think it should be completely banned

This is kind of a brief rundown and part of my 2 cents worth.

Re: Switching Political Parties

Amen Shutterbug!

I watched my younger sister and many of her college and my college friends move away from Omaha. My sister would say "What kind of husband am I going to end up with if I stay here?" and "I want excitement and more opportunities in my career field." I would like to see some life come to this state instead of a cornfield that people pass through on their way to go skiing.

If Tom Osborne has his way we will be pushed back to the 1950's. He has and agenda to promote his ultra conservative plan. Tom Osborne has also shown that he likes to control the show (aka Tom is not really a "team player"). Our state is not a football team! We are a community of people who deserve to have rights.

Tom Osborne wants to make it so you can not buy beer on Sunday. So go ahead a vote for him if you want but make sure you pick up your beer on Saturday for the Sunday football games!

Tom Osborne was behind the anti-gambling mission. We live in the TAX ME STATE! I would love to see some casinos taking some of the burden off of my pocketbook. Tell me do you really enjoy writing out that giant check every year when you get your new license plates? How are your property taxes?

I am not proabortion at all but I have suffered a severe nerve injury that could be helped by stem cell reaserch. Stem cells that would be thrown away and shriveled up in a trash can. It is so easy to be anti-something until you are in that boat. Tom Osborne would completely outlaw abortion if he could. How would you like it if your 14 year old daughter was raped by some dirtbag and had to suffer through a pregnancy? The delivery of that child would be raping her all over again.

I am just trying to throw out some scenario's to keep the wheels turning in peoples heads. Educate yourselves before you go into that voting booth and the tunnel song starts playing in your mind. I would hope that the people live here would be a bit smarter about voting for the person that they feel will do the best job and not the person with the most famous name.

I am planning on voting for Dave Heineman. I don't agree with everything he stands for but at least I feel he is leaning a little more to the middle ground. He really has done a great job so far. Did you read the article in the OWH regarding out crop trades with Cuba that he worked on? He really is in the race to progress Nebraska not only in agriculture but also in other areas. I would love to see Omaha grow into a true metropolitian city. I would like to see large companies drawn to Nebraska to produce more employment opportuities and stimulate the economy.

I don't consider myself pro-Heineman or anti-Osborne. I am educated about issues and I am pro Nebraska. It is a matter of picking the best person for the job.

BTW, there is supposed to be a debate between the canidates on Sunday March 19th. That is all the information I have right now. If anyone is interested I can post more about it as I find out.

Re: Switching Political Parties

Ok .. Here is the scoop. You have to change parties 10 days before the election you want to vote in.. So if you want to vote in the primary republican primaries you have to have changed your vote either at any public library or at the court house ten days before the election. After the election there is no time limit you can change back to your party right after you vote.. When the boys get back from vacation I will be on the show talking about how to do this..

Re: Switching Political Parties

Don't forget to watch the debates on channel 9 (7) at 8 pm on Sunday evening. I hope we can actually see what Tom Osborne thinks about the Omaha school district situation.

Re: Switching Political Parties

FYI-- April 21st is the last day that you can change political parties. If you don't have time to stop and do it in person, you can mail in the form as long as it is postmarked April 21.

Here is the link:

My brother-in-law, whom is a devoted Democrat is switching to vote against Osborne. He is also a big Nebraska fan, but knows hes a better coach than a governor.
