Exclamation Switching Political Parties

To all people who can think for themselves(and those that can't):

The primary Republican election is coming upon us. I have made it clear about my feelings that Tom Osborne is not the person we need leading the state of Nebraska. Please feel free to do your own research on the canidates for yourself.

In the state of Nebraska, we are dominated by Republicans which means that rarely does a Democratic canidate win an election here. So here is my pitch:

I am asking that all independent and democratic voters change parties to republican for the primary. Please do your homework so that the lesser of evils will be elected to run in the gubernatorial election down the road.

Changing parties is easy to do. Here is the step by step guide to doing it:

#1 Go to http://www.sos.state.ne.us/forms/pdf/vr.pdf and print out the form.
#2 Fill out the form.
#3 Either fax or mail in your form.
#4 Receive your Republican card in the mail.
#5 Vote at your designated polling place
#6 Go to http://www.sos.state.ne.us/forms/pdf/vr.pdf and print out a new form.
#7 Change back to your original party in the same way that you switched to Republican.

I am not a Husker Hater by any means. I was born and raised here in Nebraska. However, just because you can coach a football team does not mean that you can run a state. If Tom Osborne is elected I see it as a major set back for the state. I know that other canidates that are more progressive have plans to help our state grow.

The majority of college graduates here leave the state for more urbanized cities. I would love to see Omaha, Lincoln and other cities in the state thrive and give people a reason to live here. Omaha is becoming a wonderful place to live. The Qwest center has been a wonderful addition to the city's economy. I believe that the rest of Nebraska can find progression also. I look at what the current governor has done for farming with trades with Cuba for instance.

I hope that I don't sound like I am standing on a soapbox preaching. I am trying to stimulate the minds of the voters in Nebraska and ask them which direction they would like to see this state move in.

Best Wishes and Vote with your heart.

You don't have to be a member of the party to vote that way however.

Re: Switching Political Parties

I am with you ^. I am a Husker fan, but also feel that Osborne is not the man to run our state. If I had to vote for him to coach the Huskers again, I'd be all over it. Anyway I am a registered republican and will be voting in the primary for anyone but Osborne. I hate that he forced gambling out of our state.

I don't have a real big political mind so who else is in the primary. I've heard Heineman, Osborne, and Nabity. What are their stances, etc?

Only if you are "Independant" if you are "D" you can vote "R" if you wish.

Re: Switching Political Parties

Here are the currently filed applications for the governor's race:

Republican Party Dave Nabity 1642 S. 152nd St.
Omaha, NE 68144

Republican Party Dave Heineman 1425 H St.
Lincoln, NE 68508

Republican Party Tom Osborne Lot 13 K - 3
Lemoyne, NE 69146

Democrat Party Glenn R. Boot Jr. 1205 Adams St.
Ashland, NE 68003

Democrat Party David Hahn 501 Pier 2
Lincoln, NE 68528

Nebraska Party Barry Richards 73775 Maywood Ave.
Hayes Center, NE 69032

I am looking into if a Democrat can vote in a Republican primary. If I remember correctly I was not able to do that as a Democrat. I will post as soon as I find out. I have emailed the election office.

I just wanted to say that three years ago when I was first able to vote I registered Republican. I'm going to vote against Osborne, and then reregister as Independent.

Re: Switching Political Parties

I was talking with Lynnie last night about this, and correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have to remain in the same party for six months here in Nebraska? That way people couldn't switch parties for each election to sway the votes.

I have never heard anything like that, and I can't find any information to support that either.

It would be interesting to know, because what would stop people from switching parties to throw an election?

It's not really the election though it's just the primary, and I don't see how it would throw. If people feel strongly enough about 1 candidate than that is how they will vote. Look at how Osborne got all the fools to vote against gambling.

BTW: I have sent an email to Heineman's campaign manager to find out if democrats have to switch to vote in the primary.

Re: Switching Political Parties

Okay again for the record in the primary you can only vote for people in YOUR political party. If you are registered Democrat you can only vote DEMOCRAT,

accordinding to another election person there is no time limit to change to vote in the primary.
