Yeah, but, what do I do with a podcast? What kinda hardware / software do I need? Someone put it into simple terms that an old fart, like me, can understand.

Essentially, Podcasts are Mp3's...You can either download them to your computer or you can "subscribe to them" so they download themselves.

RSS allows you to view the content (text, audio) feeds from many different sources in a short amount of time. And you can update all the feeds at the same time, or one by one.

What is XML?
RSS is handled through a technology called XML (eXtensible Markup Language). It's not something you would really want to look at, but your computer can use it to do a lot of cool things, like podcast.

I've been to the site and it is F*cking great!!! But I have one small question / request... Is there a way to list what time frame each segement is from?

In other words... I listen first thing in the morning from 5:45 to about 7:30. I want to find the segments that I missed. Is there a way that you can list how long the segments are, or what time they were derived?

It would save me, and my slow-ass computer, a lot of time trying to find what I need.

Again, though, This is fricken neat! Thank you!

Although I can't prove my logic nor can I guarantee it works all the time (for instance, when the PC crashes)...

Each segment will likely be separated by the commercials they play, around the :00 and :30 times. One could assume that the first segment (it's not shaded) is from 0530-0600, essentially. Therefore, you could estimate the gray shaded boxes (the even-numbered segments) are the top of the hours (#2 is 0600, #4 is 0700...)

I suggest you start at #5, then. Now I am going to test my theory, and listen to the show (I missed it on Friday)

I do agree with your suggestions though, it doesn't seem too difficult to give an estimate on the times they aired and their length...

Tarbox did an excellent job explaining the concept of podcasting...it's the poor man's radio, now. All it really takes to make a podcast is some basic recording software, a microphone, and a means of getting your "show" on the internet for the masses to download and enjoy.

One doesn't need any real knowledge about podcasts, RSS feeds, or XML to listen though. All that technical jargon explains how you can make your PC automatically download the shows as they are posted to the web. However, one can get the shows manually with relative ease (which might serve you better Thender, because you said some segments of the show are unnecessary to download and rehear)...just click on the segments to open them and listen.

The segments themselves are just audio files (mp3s), so essentially all one needs is a music player (for instance, quicktime). I suppose if you want to save a segment, open the file (you'll know you've done this when the internet address ends with ".mp3") and go to "Save as/Save Page as"

If your PC is acting really slow, I suggest clearing your cookies and/or temporary internet files, check for viruses, etc.

...or suck it up and buy a new PC

Thanks for the extra clarity Donnie. As for the top / bottom of the hour idea... That doesn't really hold water yet. One segment was 12 minutes long and the next was 42 minutes long. I do believe you are right about them being seperated by commercials though. We'll just have to keep expierementing with it.

And actualy, the segments do download great using microsoft's media player. But now I'm looking foward to shopping around for a portable Mp3 player. Any good suggestions?

Obviously, the "in" thing right now are iPods...but I enjoy using my favorite portable mp3 player: my laptop.

Granted, it's a little big, but I can do so much more with it than a normal mp3 player...most notably, wireless internet

P.S. Regarding the length, I noticed after posting my earlier statements that it didn't pan out great. But hopefully part of it can still serve as as a guideline--Tyler doesn't have "hard outs" like Trav has to adhere to during his BS 590 show, so I imagine TnT can be pretty lenient with some of their commercial breaks (especially the ones that occur around the :30 minute times...)

I think Tyler is pretty good at hitting a commercial around the hour changes though, so I still think assuming the even-numbered segments as being 0600, 0700, etc. is fairly accurate...It gives you a starting point to begin your search, at least.

Can someone please post the URL for me to subscribe to this feed? I clicked on the XML thing but it didn't give me what I needed, I don't think. I *think* I'm looking for a simple address that ends with ".rss" (apparently also referred to as a channel). Of course, I consider myself technically challenged. So if anyone has added the TnT Show podcast to iTunes, please tell me how to do it (I was trying to by opening iTunes, opening the Advanced menu, and selecting "Subscribe to Podcast" but I didn't have a valid URL to paste in the pop-up box)

If anyone can help, thanks a bunch. I'll keep trying to find it anyway

I am having trouble as well Donnie...

I have never subscribed to any rss feeds before so don't know much about it. I will tinker with it this week-end. If I can shed any light on the subject, I will post it here.

(BTW, I threw 50 grand on KU this week-end...Big Red my ass!!!!

Click on each link and it should give you a dialogue box asking if you want to open the file or save it to the hard drive.

If, when you click the link for a segment, no pop-up box appears and the file begins playing (mine starts to play immediately via quicktime), take a look at the address bar.

If it ends with ".mp3" (Ex. http://media.z92.com/friday%201.mp3 ), just choose "Save As" from your File menu and save to your desktop...it *should* save as an mp3 file. Just watch your PC's memory space disappear, though (the first segment for Friday's show is roughly 24 MB)
