There was a good discussion about kids with peanut butter allergies on the show today.

Tyler thinks schools should ban peanut butter because some kids that are allergic can die in seconds of coming in contact with it.

Travis thinks parents should have some personal responsibility and that it would be ludicrous to ask a school to ban peanut butter because of your kid's allergy. Todd seems to agree with the hypothesis.

"Tyler loves kids, Trav hates them", that's how Tyler boiled it down.

"What about families that live on welfare cheese and peanut butter?", that was Trav's retort

There was a call from a guy who doesn't ask his kid's school to ban peanut butter, but they sit down with the principal and figure out if the kid can have sack lunch or hot lunch each week.

A welfare mother called in to call Travis a "cheap bastard" and to let him know that people on welfare can afford more than wefare cheese and peanut butter.

Personally, I'd have to agree with Trav and Todd, but again, what's the harm in removing peanut butter from schools? I probably wouldn't lobby for it, but it'd certainly make my life easier.

So, what this really boils down to is this... What's your favorite peanut butter.

By the way, I don't know if Google peanut butter is around anymore, but it was PB&J mixed together in a jar. It was sort of like Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. It had a number of goofy names to it, but I don't think it's available anymore. Being the techno freaks we are, I thought I'd better throw "google" peanut butter in with the bunch.

Also, I don't know if the government makes both a chunky and creamy peanut butter available, so only one choice is available.

Dave - It is called "Goober" - the peanut and jelly mixed together not google..

What they do at my kids school is if there is a child in the classroom that is allergic to Peanut Butter than they are not allowed to have any snacks in the classroom that contain peanut butter. The reason they don't ban peanut butter from school is that many things may contain peanuts the school would have to pay more to be certain that there is no peanuts or peanut oil in ANY food. Then you also have children with different food allergies.. milk, dairy, all nuts, wheat allergy - then what will you feed the children?? Because if you banned peanut butter because of Sally you had better ban wheat for Tommy.. That is why the schools work with the parents to benefit the children. It is also why in every school you have someone who has been trained with an epi pen and how to administer it..

Jif .. Creamy or Crunchy - it depends on what I am having it with..

I have a nephew who's allergic to most nuts, we had to learn to use the epi-pen. It's a big ass needle you have to jab into their thigh if they come in contact with nuts. Looking at that last sentence, does that look bad or what. Anyways when I was a kid, during lent we used to get served PB sandwiches on Fridays do they still do that and why didn't we seem to have anyone who was allergic to it?

In the Army, we used to carry three cartridges, called antropine injectors, that had three inch long needles that we would jab into our thighs in case of a biological attack.... Many a debate was held over a few beers as to how we would do in case the time came... (Oh yeah, If you came up on a person that was unconscious after a bio-attack, you stabbed him in the heart with the cartridges..

)

And good question! Everybody ate PB&J when I was in school....

In fact, I ate lunch with my younger daughter last year and they served "Smuckers" pre-packed PB&J sandwiches... Law of probability maybe?

If you like peanuts (the legume, not the gay comic strip--Snoopy, of course, is OK)) and you are not allergic to them and you can afford them (pistachios are sometimes pricey), then you should probably go ahead and eat them. They are quite good especially with pretzels and beer.
