They also talked about the nine year old in Washington state who stoled a car, got caught, ran away, caught two flights to Texas then got cautht.

A good discussion on " spanking your kids"...because of a proposed law in California that would make it illegal to spank and child under 3.

I don't think this really matters. You show me one significant research study that shows that spanking has any effect, positive or negative, on a kid. I was never spanked and despite what you may think I'm very mature for my age.

I wasn't "spanked" it was more like, getting your ass beat...

Anyway I don't spank OR beat my kids, I can't bring myself to do it. even the times I thought they needed an ass swat.

I am really afraid that I'll start to spank them and not stop and go overboard in the heat of the moment. Which was always the " excuse" I heard afterward.


I see no need for my kids to be afraid of me in a physical sense. the look, and fear of disappointing us is enough for now, and hopefully forever !

I can't deny that I've thought really long and hard about beating them once or twice though .

Oh I'm sure I deserved a beating once or a hundred times. But my parents yelling did the trick for us.

I was spanked and even had a belt used on me when I was a kid and I don't think it left any negative effects on me.

I was pissed at the time but I fully deserved it.

my dad always made me go and get the board. he would take some time to calm down before he swatted me one or two times. he never went overboard, and i always deserved it. ther are differing opinions on if i turned out ok or not.

ATTENTION: "I spank my kids" and alot of parents do, most do not admit it because of the stigma behind it.

Do I spank them in excess? No. Primarly when they have put themselves or another one of the kids in danger.

As with any form of discipline, using it too much produces less effectiveness. And you must remember that with any form of discpline, you need to give love as well.

But spanking, we need to stop with this crap. Everyone is "afraid" to parent their kids. Not me.

Well yeah, it must be effective. But if its not, then someone is likely using it too often. Every child is different though.

I got spanked as a kid. I can likely tell you what I did to deserve each one. :)

My mom had the "board" too, but always counted to 3, so we had an opportunity to stop our crap...doesn't mean we always did.

I could count on one hand the times I have spanked my daughter, but each time she had gone overboard and nothing else would have worked. I don't abuse, but I think there are times when it works. Now she knows, and when we get to that point...she settles down, or she takes herself to her room.
I deserved every spanking and face smack I got.
Funny story, I outgrew my 5'2" mother in about 4th-5th grade, and she always said jokingly, "I can get on a chair to beat ya." I use that against her these days!

Actually, i believe Brett and his sister are from Tylers hometown of Mechanicsburg ,and Brett dated one of Tylers sisters for a short time . Also Bretts sister use to live here because i think she was married to a guy that was in the Air Force. I think she has moved back and forth a couple of times. So now she is back here.

On the spanking issue... I whole heartedly believe in Corporal punishment. In fact, after visiting my daughter's schools, I wish they would hire me to be the punisher!

I don't believe in "beating" or "abusing" a child but a good spanking never hurt. Especially if it gets their attention! "Attention! You have overstepped your bounds and this spanking is to let you know that."

Although, not every child responds to a spanking. My oldest daughter has an iron ass. Spanking does not phase her. But stand her in the corner and force her to stare at the blank wall, and you would think the world just came to an end! I have her attention...

The youngest daughter.... Just mention the fact that you are going to spank her and she ceases and desists. I believe I could get her to paint the house if I wanted too.

After a couple of years of these disciplinary measures both daughters haven't given me much crap, there have been no tantrums, just the occasional pouting (which I find that laughing at them snaps them right out of that.), and I'm hoping it stays that way. Every child has their own breaking point.

I loved that one guy that called into the show and said he threw a glass of water in his kid's face! Got his attention real fast! Wish I would of thought of that.

Another point... If your child has made you so mad that you are seeing red, Just walk away or count to ten... You need to calm down before you start any disciplinary procedures.

I will now let you get back to your regularly scheduled programing....
